Audemars Piguet 25721ST.00.1000ST.09.A Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph
A brief history
Established in 1875, Audemars Piguet is known for creating watches with outstanding movements and complications. They are credited with producing the first wrist watch with a minute repeater in 1892 and for creating the smallest five-minute repeater ever made, in 1915.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore
The first Royal Oak was released in 1972. In 1993, they unveiled their new version of the Royal Oak - the Offshore - with a slightly larger, bolder look. It took the steel watch to a new level of sporty masculinity.
The watch is easy to recognise by its octagonal bezel with rounded edges. Eight hexagonal silver screws stand out against the grey of the bezel. They not only hold the bezel in place but also add a unique and iconic design feature.
Audemars Piguet 25721ST - choice of straps
This particular Audemars Piguet 25721ST comes with the steel bracelet, but also includes a blue rubber strap that was purchased from Audemars Piguet, giving you the choice to switch between the two.
Audemars Piguet 25721ST - the details
The AP 25721ST has a 42mm case with a 14.9mm depth. It weighs approximately 223 grams, but gold and platinum models weigh even more. This particular model has a solid stainless steel back, but some models come with an exhibition back that allows you to look at the impressive inner workings of the watch.
The dial is blue with a square grid pattern across it. This is Audemars Piguet’s famous “tapisserie”. Different references have different size tapisseries.
The hour, minute and second hands are grey and white and the hour markers are batons. The perimeter of the dial is marked with seconds and split seconds for accurate timing of fractions of seconds using the chronograph function. Beyond the seconds is the tachymeter printed in white against a vivid blue background.
There are three blue subdials: a second counter at the 12 O’clock position, a 30-minute counter at the 9 O’clock position and a 12-hour counter at the 6 O’clock position. The 3 O’clock position has the date aperture which makes the 3 baton shorter than the other hour markers. The pushpiece guards make the watch sturdier and streamline the edge. The crystal is sapphire.
This watch is waterproof to 100 metres (330 feet).
Movement
The Audemars Piguet 25721ST is driven by the 2326/2840 movement which is self-winding and has a 38 hour power reserve.
