A Brief History of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 

The very first Oyster watch was introduced in 1926.  It was called Oyster because it was inspired by an oyster shell that has an impenetrable seal around it.  

In 1927, Mercedes Gleitze wore the Rolex Oyster when she spent 10 hours swimming across the English channel.  She was successful in her attempt, and the watch arrived in perfect working condition.

With the invention of the self-winding mechanism, it was completely possible to seal the watch, keeping it protected from water, dampness, and dust. The Rolex watch was now in the public eye and shop windows displayed them in tanks of water to show off their water-tightness. 

Rolex Oyster Perpetual 126000 - Details 

In 2020 Rolex unveiled the beautiful 126000, 36mm Oystersteel with the green dial.  Simplicity is key to this reference.  No complications, no date or day.  Just an upgraded movement that increased the functional reliability of the watch - and alluring coloured dials.  

It comes with the Oyster bracelet which is equipped with the folding Oysterclasp and the useful Easylink 5mm adjustable extension for a perfect fit. 

The dial colour is the famous Rolex green and the hour markers are white batons, with the exception of the 12 which is represented by the Rolex coronet. The hour markers are treated with Chromalight which glows blue in low light for easy reading.  The bezel is domed and the crystal is non-scratch sapphire. 

Movement 

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual is powered by the calibre 3230 which was introduced in 2020.  It uses the Chronergy escapement, ensuring the reliability of +/- 2 seconds per day along with high energy efficiency. Self-winding, with high resistance to shock and magnetism, the calibre 3230 resulted in several new patents for Rolex. 

The 126000 is waterproof to 100 metres (330 feet) and has a power reserve of around 70 hours.

Safe to say, this classic, timeless design will go with virtually anything.  The smaller case size of 36mm makes it somewhat understated and easily worn by both men and women.  It could be worn with a suit to meetings or in the board room, and effortlessly go out to dinner or a cocktail party looking more dressed up.
