24 hours with the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Blue M79030B-0001
So, on June 30th our social media manager put a request on the Chrono Hunter website for the hotly anticipated new Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Blue, ref. M79030B-0001 one day before the official (and not so secret anymore) release.
On July 1st, he received a call from one of the reputable retailers we deal with to inform him the watch was in stock and ready for collection.
No less than 24 hours later it was in our hands at Chrono Hunter HQ and I can tell you that it did not disappoint.
Dubbed the ‘baby smurf’ here at Chrono Hunter HQ (you read it here first) this Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight certainly leaves a long and lustrous lasting impression.
For those of you that don’t already know, Tudor is a sub-brand of Rolex, so if your purse strings can’t quite stretch to a Rolex the next best thing is definitely a Tudor watch.
So without further ado..
Let’s have a closer look at the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Blue ref. M79030B-0001
We’ll start with dial and all its blueness:
Blue dials certainly have been on trend for the last few years it seems, and if I had a pound for every brand that didn’t release a blue dial watch in the last year, I’d have very few.
So how does this new Black Bay Fifty-Eight Blue reference M79030B-0001 keep its head above water in this crowded sea of blue dials?
I don’t want to suggest that it walks on water but…
Just have a look at this dial when you get up close and personal and tell us you’re not in love.
This winning pairing of classic proportion 39mm steel case and vintage-inspired riveted style bracelet, with a usable and functional unidirectional 60 click rotatable bezel in matt blue anodised aluminium and silver gilded markings and numerals make this watch a desirable one, so desirable in fact that should you call any boutique now you will have to join a long waiting list.
The riveted steel bracelet features a combination of polished and satin finishing styles on its surface, and sits comfortably on this 5 ½ inch wrist as photographed, and we believe that the versatility and wearability of a watch of this design would suit a wrist size up to 8 inches just as well.
If you’re one to chop and change your wristwear you’ll be happy to know this particular model boasts a 70-hour power reserve.
The movement is a calibre MT5402 which is self-winding and sits snugly inside the polish and satin-finished 39mm steel case.
In true Tudor fashion, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Blue ref. M79030B-000 is sporting the steel screw-down winding crown with the Tudor rose in engraved relief.
This watch is a nod back to the history of Tudor as in 1969 they released a divers watch with a blue dial and bezel, this was later adopted by the French navy for its divers during the 1970s.
What’s the price?
The retail price of this watch is £2,760 in the UK on a matching steel bracelet, and we have already seen examples being advertised at £3995. As mentioned earlier the waiting list is already growing for this model so it’s likely that if you are not already on the list you may have to wait a considerable amount of time or simply jump the queue by paying the premium. Whatever you decide, I don’t think you’d regret adding this watch to your collection.
