5 of the Best Tag Heuer Watches to Buy Right Now

Tag Heuer - a history that goes back 160 years.

Tag Heuer was established by Edouard Heuer when he was just 20 years old and later passed the company on to his son, Charles Augustine.  At first he produced pocket watches made of silver but soon developed new and important instruments to record time of trips and even helped doctors to time patients’ heart rate.  The company invented the oscillating pinion which is still popular with many watchmakers. The “time of trip” stop watch was incorporated into the instrument panels of cars and planes from 1911.

The Heuer brand has continued to be a big player in the advancement of horology and has created chronographs that can measure fractions of seconds, including the Mikrotimer Flying 1000 (1/1000th of a second) and the Mikrogirder (1/10000th of a second).

With such significant innovations to watches, Tag Heuer has earned its place in the luxury watch market.  As such, it’s well worth considering one of the following notable watches as a statement to wear as well as a good investment.  Here are some of the best to consider buying right now.

If you want to own a piece of the future, right now, consider this remarkable new watch. This innovative timepiece, introduced at the 2022 Watches and Wonders show, uses Diamant d’Avant-garde technology.  This involves growing diamonds in a lab, using a laser to shape them and then covering the watch face in this “polycrystalline” diamond material. As if that isn’t enough, A 2.5-carat lab-grown diamond is used as the crown.

The case is large at 44mm and made of sandblasted anodized aluminium.  The movement is the Heuer 02 Tourbillon Nanograph and uses a carbon hairspring which provides incredible anti-magnetism and shock resistance.  It also has enhanced stability whatever temperature extremes it may be exposed to.  It has a stylish black leather strap with a strong black titanium clasp.

This eye-catching, sporty little number is a collaboration between Tag Heuer and Red Bull.  The calibre is Quartz Chronograph.

The watch case is 43mm fine brushed/polished steel with a fixed bezel.  The blue face has white rhodium-plated Arabic numbers, as do the hour and minute hands.  The second hand is yellow.  Below the 12 sits the brand name with “Formula 1” above.

There are 3 sub-dials which display seconds, 30 minutes and the date.  The back of the watch case is engraved with the chequered pattern associated with racing and the words “Red Bull Racing” and “Tag Heuer”.

In keeping with the F1 theme the rubber strap is textured with a pattern of ribs and grooves that reflect the tread of a car tyre. (Purests will not that F1 cars only use tyres with tread in wet weather, otherwise, they are completely smooth).  The pin buckle is fine brushed steel.

Monaco Automatic Chronograph (Reference CBL2113.BA0644)

Tag Heuer first introduced the Monaco in 1969 in both automatic and manual versions with watch faces in blue, grey and black.  It was phased out in less than ten years but came back in 1997 as reference CS2110.  The Monaco is now more popular than it ever was and is worth considering including in your collection.

The latest Monaco Calibre Heuer O2 was introduced in 2019 using the new Calibre Heuer O2.  Although it is very similar, the original watch strap was leather while the new version has a stainless steel bracelet.

This watch stands out for having a square stainless steel case with an exhibition back.  The dial is sunray brushed black  with white minute and hour Super-LumiNova® coated hands, as well as a red second hand. Water resistant to 100 metres, it has the impressive power reserve of 80 hours.

Two sub-dials give you a 30 minute counter on the left of the watch face and a 60 second counter on the right.  Just above the 6 is the date counter.

This limited edition Aquaracer could be one of the best investments right now.  It has a black dial which was co-designed with the Bamford Watch Department. The 43mm case is ultra light-weight and 12-sided.  The 60-minute scale, unidirectional bezel and bracelet are in super-resilient grade 2 titanium.

It has the limited edition number engraved on the case back in the form of “one of 844” - a nod to Tag Heuer’s first dive watch reference 844 released in 1978.  With only 844 produced, this is likely to make this a good investment - assuming you can find one.

The date is above the 6 marker and has a cyclops for easy reading.  There is a red 24-hour scale marked out just below each hour marker, which again is a nod to the original 844.  It has a power reserve of 38 hours.

The 3, 12 and 9 hour markers are batons, the 6 marker is a much smaller one to allow for the date window.  All the other hour markers are dots.

Of interest to divers, this watch is waterproof to 300 metres and luminous in the darkness if you’re underwater (or just in the dark).  Coated with Super-LumiNova®, the markings on the bezel glow blue along with the minute and second hands but the hour hand and indices glow blue, making it much easier to read the time.

The Autavia was first introduced in 1962 and became synonymous with keeping time for adventures in racing and flying.

This 60th anniversary flyback chronograph retains all the characteristics of the original but now uses the Calibre Heuer O2.

The hour and minute hands are luminous green, the second-hand white.  The indices are Arabic numbers except for the 12 which features the Tag Heuer brand name and the 6 which is replaced with a date aperture.

Conclusion

Tag Heuer is a highly reputable company which can take its place among the most innovative watchmakers of our time.  If you’re looking for a somewhat unusual investment choice which delivers style at a very reasonable price point, these watches are well worth considering.
