You can almost taste the rainbow.

Well, that’s what the folks over at TAG Heuer want you to do with this dazzling timepiece. Known for their sporty chic watches, The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Polychrome showcases a unique rainbow opaline look.

Seiko Unveils The Prospex Speedtimer Chronograph SRQ045

Time for a fun fact about Seiko. It was one of the first global brands to release an automatic chronograph back in 1969. But as Bob Dylan once declared, the times are changing…or are they?

Instead of Woodstock and John Lennon’s bed-in with Yoko Ono, the mechanical chronograph is making a long-awaited comeback. In 2012, after the Japanese giant unveiled The Prospex Speedtimer Mechanical Chronograph SRQ035 and SRQ037, Seiko is back.

But this time, it is introducing a replication of this model entitled The Prospex Speedtimer SRQ045. If looks could kill, this super sleek all black piece is turning as many heads as Sharon Stone. The basic instinct here is Seiko’s first rate functionality.

Paying tribute to stopwatches produced for the 1972 Winter Olympics in Japan, there’s a clear nod to its distinctive sporty chronograph characteristics.

The black and red dartboard style sub dial counter will have you screaming 180 while the minute numerals have been slimmed down encircling the dial. However the case height comes in at a touch over 15mm making it potentially thick for some time peeps.

If you want to buy a Seiko with a slimmer case, you may want to opt for The Seiko SPB317 or SBGK007, both at 12mm tall. As 1970's as a prawn cocktail, The new Speedtimer boasts 100m of water resistance, an automatic winding calibre 8R46 movement, 45 hour power reserve and calf leather strap with folding clasp.

The back story though is a fascinating one as Seiko was the official timekeeper during the 1972 Winter Olympics. The brand went on to manufacture its first stopwatch watch solely created for winter sports. Offering high visibility despite the darkest of months, Seiko went about presenting a 1/10th-of-a-second stopwatch with sharp matte black dial which has been sandblasted for excellent clarity.

Measuring 42.5mm and 50mm long, there’s also a tachymeter scale surrounding the dial on this classic men’s watch. And Seiko’s hard black case coating ensures increased levels of scratch resistance. You will notice the transparent caseback which is home to the superb in-house calibre 8R46 delivering its column-wheel and vertical clutch design.

Only available through official retailers or Seiko boutiques, this particular model is limited to just 600 pieces. Released in February 2023, the retail price of The Prospex Speedtimer Chronograph SRQ045 is £2,540.

Hublot Drops Ultra-Limited Edition MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Rainbow 3D Carbon

Staying on the rainbow dial theme and next up is the all colourful, ultra-limited Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Rainbow 3D Carbon.

Launched by Hublot for 2023, it blends the finest cutting edge, super-lightweight carbon material offering excellent torsion resistance. Looks can sometimes be deceiving.

But it is the impact of colour that shines in this particular model taking this singular timepiece somewhere beyond the Twilight Zone. Since 1990, Founder Carlo Crocco has been inspiring and shocking watch lovers with his contemporary yet divine artistic interpretation that Hublot is so famous for.

Buy a Hublot and you are investing in some of the Swiss brand’s most infamous designs such as The Hublot Big Bang MP-11 or The Hublot Big Bang Collection. The latter being similar to the highly sought after Patek Phillipe Nautilus.

And you know Hublot doesn't do small things. Bigger is certainly better when it comes to this unique timepiece. Measuring a hefty 49mm, it is nearly 18mm thick and comes complete with a rainbow alligator leather strap that closes thanks to a folding titanium clasp.

Every component of The Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis 5 Day Power Reserve has been designed in-house. The signature rainbow concept has been taken to new heights of course thanks to a spectrum of coloured gradation inserts. A prism of infinite shades has been reproduced in order to create a watchmaking first - to showcase an infinite amount of accents reflecting the sheen from precious stones.

Only Hublot could have executed this incredible feat. With a nod to both The King Gold and Titanium models from 2017, the oversized dial is slightly off centre showing both the hours and minute markers. The hour markers showcase all seven colours we normally associate with a classic rainbow.

On the matte black dial, time lords will discover two unique semicircles where you can read the date from 1-31. Meanwhile, “5 Day Power Reserve” is emblazoned underneath at 9 o’clock. However, it’s the complex HUB9009.H1.RA Manufacture Manual-winding Tourbillon Bi-axis Skeleton Movement that’s the horological star of the show.

Composed of a staggering 356 components, it is as captivating as an Andrea Bocelli performance. And has enough autonomy to power this timepiece for a mind blowing 120 hours! Donald Trump may have written about The Art of The Deal but Hublot has composed a new chapter in the art of watchmaking!
