WOW 23: Vacheron Constantin Launches Traditionnelle Tourbillon With (Very) Green Dial
Vacheron Constantin released a stunner of a model with their Traditionnelle Tourbillon. It cleverly moulds the features of the Traditionelle’s lineage with the modern vibrancy of colour and avant garde design. They have been busy at this year's Watches and Wonders 2023. From releasing 3 new retrograde models and subtle tweaks to the Overseas collection, they have taken Watches and Wonders 2023 by storm and are yet to stop! So, let's get straight into why we feel this model will make you go green with envy. Introducing The Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Tourbillon.
Personality of the Traditionnelle Tourbillon With Sunburst Green Dial
First off, it is crafted within one of the most challenging, precious metals to use in platinum. At 41mm, the dial is shaded in a beautiful green dial which a few of you out there in the horological universe may have noticed is becoming a bit of a trend! For those of you who have been feverishly watching Watches and Wonders, you will have seen the sublime Oris Kermit released which has undoubtedly been the talk of the horological world.
The dial goes through galvanic treatment which has a dual purpose of giving more of a tone to the dial and also offering a beautiful shine which is gleaned when bouncing off the highly polished platinum case. For many this is a nice aesthetic for those looking to buy a Vacheron Constantin with a little added pzazz.

The indices and Dauphine style hands are both crafted from white gold which allows them to stand out very clearly from the evergreen dial. This increases their legibility and also adds an extra dimension to the overall appearance. Combine the dials aesthetic with an equally alligator green leather strap ensuring a seamless and a horological masterpiece if we don’t say so ourselves! It's a brilliant and innovative act by Vacheron Constantin because it takes the highly renowned circular case design of the older models and modernises it through the deep colouring.
The case has a fluted back which enhances the circular build of the case, especially since it is layered with different ‘levels’ which adds a few more dimensions. The dial is circled with a railway track which keeps track of the minutes. It's designed in such a way that it's not obstructive to the rest of the dial, in fact, it's a darker shade which allows the indices which are on the periphery to stand out further.
Technical Features Of The Traditionnelle Tourbillon
The model's slenderness is not only made possible through their phenomenal engineering of materials, but because of the highly advanced calibre 2160/1.

The calibre measures at 5.65mm and is built with a tourbillon regulator in order to keep the calibre very slim because otherwise gravity would wreak havoc on the balance spring and resulting in the timepiece being wholly inaccurate. And we don’t want to waste time considering that! The model beats at a hardy 18,000VpH which is similar to what vintage pocket watches might have contained. But let’s not harp on about the past for a second…this is the present and The Traditionnelle Tourbillon. The model also boasts a 22k peripheral vintage mass which shows how they use the best materials for the smallest aspects of the models.
You can see all this for yourself through the sapphire caseback which allows a direct view into the intricacies like the peripheral rotor. With a solid power reserve of 80 hours, the model has the longevity and precision to be a fantastic model for any enthusiast collection. The watch should be worn with grace and decorum so get this bad boy paired with a navy suit for your next work function. Not feeling too formal? Dress it down with a cashmere green jumper to look seamless with the bracelet and dial.
Of course, it wouldn't be a classy model if even the smallest details were not designed expertly. The exhibition back allows you to see the Côtes-de-Genève finish on the bridges and the tourbillon features their iconic Maltese cross design that we have come to adore. This again demonstrates the level of thought and ingenuity that has gone into these timepieces! Perfect for the OCD folks among us who want to buy a Vacheron Constantin with all the little details.
What’s Our View?
Almost flawless, this Swiss powerhouse has designed a model which follows on from the pride of its predecessors.

The Traditionelle collection has seen quite a few changes in Watches and Wonders 2023, with timepieces like the retrograde date being released to this beautiful model enhancing the collection even further. The model competently blends vintage aspects like the case design such as the tapered lugs and circular case with very modern updates like the highly functioning calibre 2160, skeletonised caseback and tourbillon on the front of the dial. The model is shaded both on the strap and the dial as a luscious green colour which is not commonly used in the horological world. Maybe it shows their steps to vibrancy and more vintage models that may spawn similar colour schemes? Only time will tell.
Conclusion
There we have it, Timelords. This Swiss brand has demonstrated why they are the best in the business once again by releasing a beautifully designed timepiece, fit with a skeletonised tourbillon and stunning green dial, along with the timeless case that will forever be instantly recognizable. Vacheron Constantin has been on a streak this Watches and Wonders 2023, releasing phenomenal pieces like the Retrograde Calendar Moonphase Retrograde. In our humble opinion, we believe the green dial represents things to come for Vacheron Constantin and we are all for it!
The calibre is Hallmark of Geneva certified and successfully runs the tourbillon, hours, minutes and small seconds on the tourbillon carriage. Keep up the good work, guys. Now we need you to drop a touch more colour!
