Maurice Lacroix AIKON-IC Frozen Carbon Lineup Presents Six Colourways With COSC Chronometer Specs

Jura mechanics meets forged carbon: Six references, (three limited to 500 pieces) utilising titanium, bronze and Damascus steel alongside dials made from metal powders and epoxy resin, we deep dive into our review of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon-IC Frozen Carbon collection

Summary

  • Renowned for the Calypso model during the 1990s, the Masterpiece and Pontos, notably with the 2026 release of the Pontos S Solar and Pontos S Solar Chronograph, comes the brand’s next generation of energetic sports watches.
  • Following the success of the AIKON series, debuted in 2016, it combines new hues and materials including bronze or titanium powders and coloured pigments, produced by a local specialist.
  • Boasting random patterns, no timepiece is alike, akin to a Zenith Defy Extreme Glacier, composed of chalcedony. There are three limited editions and three non-permanent edition models in red, sky blue and purple with carbon fibres and crystallised appearance.
  • As dynamic as a TAG Heuer Monaco, across the range, there is a quick release integrated rubber strap system, 100 metres of water resistance, matte black ceramic bezel and crown with impressive Calibre ML1000, in conjunction with Soprod.
  • Creating visual texture, permanent editions have one of a kind dials alongside identical seconds hand accent and stitching, located on the straps, while limited edition models implement uncommon materials including bronze and titanium powder.

As we draw a close on the sparkling career of Lionel Messi after playing his final game for Argentina, something else that’s as glittery as the red carpet at the Emmy Awards is turning heads…and wrists.

With six references, encompassing a wealth of materials from metallic powders to green epoxy resin, the Saignelégier brand is not leaving anything on the table. Brimming with enthusiasm, sporty good looks and strong visual presence, we review the Maurice Lacroix Aikon-IC Frozen Carbon lineup

The Aikon Collection - Everything You Need To Know

Few contemporary Swiss watches have established such a distinctive visual identity as the Maurice Lacroix AIKON.

Introduced in 2016, it launched as a modern expression of the integrated-bracelet sports watch. Subsequently, it has evolved into one of the defining pillars of the Maurice Lacroix portfolio.

Automatic models were launched in 2018, balancing strong architectural design with practicality expected of an everyday mechanical watch. The AIKON’s character is as immediately recognisable as the design language of Atelier Wen.

With nods to the runaway success of the Calypso range, during the 1990s, its angular case, integrated bracelet and six distinctive bezel claws create a confident silhouette, while carefully considered surfaces introduce contrast between polished and satin-brushed finishes.

The result is a timepiece with considerable wrist presence that almost became as unobtainable as getting a slot on the Patek Philippe waitlist.

Importantly, they have allowed the AIKON platform to develop beyond a single aesthetic formula with bold tones, complications and materials.

It encompasses automatic three-hand models, chronographs, GMT watches and technically sophisticated executions, allowing the design language room to evolve while preserving its roots.

The AIKON’s significance lies in its modern interpretation of luxury watchmaking. Rather than relying primarily on historical associations, it places contemporary design, mechanical substance and wearability at the centre of its appeal.

Wotto Limited Edition, Released October 2025

In a market dominated by familiar icons, the AIKON has carved out its own territory—proof that a modern Swiss sports watch can build lasting recognition on design alone. Now into its stable enters the Aikon-IC range.

Standing for Innovative Craftsmanship, things are stepped up a notch while remaining true to its horological roots. After all, never forget where you come from. The expressionism and experimentalism with colours, finishes and visuals.

While the inaugural series came with carbon dials together with ceramic aspects, the AIKON-IC collection still has the identical framework of its predecessor but with more of an edgier attitude.

Personality Of The Maurice Lacroix Aikon-IC Frozen Carbon Series

“With the AIKON-IC FROZEN CARBON, we are taking Innovative craftsmanship in a new direction. Frozen Carbon allows us to transform the material itself into a unique expression, where technology, craftsmanship and creativity come together. Each dial is different, making every watch genuinely personal.”

Joel Chabonne, CEO Maurice Lacroix, talking exclusively to Chrono Hunter

Forward thinking and pioneering, things have been ramped up several levels in terms of its sportiness and size. But first, let’s take a look at the dimensions which remain consistent across both permanent and non-permanent models.

Measuring 43mm x 11mm, to give you perspective it is 0.9mm less thick than a Rolex Daytona Ref. 126500 and 1mm more than a Panerai Luminor Due (PAM 1428)

Now, it’s time to delve further into all six references, starting with those forming part of its limited edition catalogue.

Aikon-IC Frozen Carbon Bronze - (AC6008-BRL20-730-2)

The Jurgen Klopp of the series, this is the heavy metal version that will no doubt score on and off the timekeeping pitch. Mixing carbon fibres and bronze powders, the goal it seems here, is to showcase a mesmerising contrast.

There is a bronze case, black ceramic bezel and carbon with inconsistent veining across the dial resulting in a patina that over time, bears resemblance to a tropical dial, normally associated with a Rolex Daytona.

Aikon-IC Frozen Carbon Deep Forest - (AC6008-TTL50-630-2)

Constructed with a black DLC-coated titanium case, this limited edition watch blends carbon fibres with green epoxy resin.

Lightweight and robust, there is a green ceramic bezel (ZrO₂) enhancing both the toughness of the case surface and intense black hue. Echoing the deep green colourways of a forest and the verdant, untamed woodland, the distribution ensures different nuances are reflected on each piece.

Other highlights include;

  • Signature AIKON bezel claws, composed of ceramic (ZrO₂), with sand-blasting.
  • Black DLC-coated titanium crown.
  • Carbon fibres cut to 6mm, distinguishing the contrast between carbon and resin.
  • Black carbon dial
  • Rhodium-plated 'M' brand logo

Aikon-IC Frozen Carbon Damas - (AC6008-K1C34-130-3)

Made from Damascus Steel, found in emerging brands and models such as the McQuaide C1 Cosmopolitan, it is forged with cutting edge composite materials, resulting in a multi-layer variated dial.

In fact, DS95X™ Damascus steel is provided by a Swedish blacksmith with unique veining, composed of titanium powder. This is mixed into the carbon dial that again benefits from undefined patterns and is not applied nor etched, reliant on the material.

There are brushed and polished finishes, adding depth and texture to its natural contours. There is a concentric layer pattern, alongside a black ceramic (ZrO₂) bezel and steel crown with black ceramic (ZrO₂) cap.

Frozen Colourways - Purple, Red, Sky Blue Declinations

Part of the permanent catalogue, these trio of watches have a melange of carbon fibres and pigmented epoxy resin.

Unique patterns dominate across each model due to the variation of fibres found within the resin. There is a stainless steel case,  black ceramic (ZrO₂) bezel, differing brushed and polished surfaces, together with sand-blasted black ceramic (ZrO₂), located on the AIKON bezel claws.

Enjoying contrast, vigour and epoxy resin, cured at just under 100 degrees Celsius, this bonds the materials before it undergoes machining.

The ML Easy Change system comes as standard, while the frozen carbon dial comes in three accents with an eye-catching finish, which is down to the random scattering of fibres that give off YEMA Superman Moontide vibes.

Other aspects we like feature;

  • Rhodium-plated indexes
  • Sand-blasted central line
  • Faceted hour and minute hands,
  • Paired second hand tone with dial (according to specific colour, i.e red dial)
  • Black textured nylon-effect insert strap with complementing stitching for every variation

Did You Know?

8-time Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer was a previous brand ambassador for two years, between 2004 and 2006.

Calibre M1000 (Produced with Soprod)

Developed in collaboration with Swiss movement specialist Soprod, located close to Maurice Lacroix’s home in Saignelégier, the automatic calibre was created specifically for the brand’s higher-specification AIKONIC and AIKON-IC models.

While the debut Aikon collection had to make do with Sellita based movements, this has now transformed into a significant improvement in performance and reliability.

Running at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the ML1000 combines modern performance with a distinctly traditional approach to movement architecture.

There is a 60-hour power reserve and is regulated to an impressive average daily accuracy of ±4 seconds per day. Despite this falling within COSC parameters, it does not have official certification. A bugbear for some, but precision remains on par with the likes of Tudor and Breitling.

The calibre contains 26 jewels and is visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback. Its visual treatment is equally considered. The balance bridge is secured by two screws, providing additional stability while creating a pleasing symmetry.

A large openworked oscillating weight reveals the decorated movement beneath, while blued screws, perlage, snailing and Côtes de Genève add another dimension to showcasing traditional Swiss finishing.

What distinguishes the ML1000 is its combination of performance, architecture and decoration at a comparatively accessible level.Rather than relying on an off-the-shelf movement, the brand has worked with Soprod to create a calibre that contributes meaningfully to the DNA of its latest generation of watches.

What’s Our View?

From its ML Easy Change System and Calibre ML1000 to its plethora of substances and colourways, evoking excellent contrast, there’s much to admire.

Appealing to those looking to foray into bolder designs and wanting to buy a watch for quiet luxury, the three limited edition variations, and trio of permanent collection editions provide a broad selection, for the most discerning of enthusiasts.

At 11mm thick, the on-wrist experience should prove to be comfortable, while the use of colour pigments and metal powders, forged carbon dial, together with Damascus steel ensures there is enough differentiation to stand out within the entry level luxury sports watch category.

This is not just as cold as ice, rather a daring, gutsy evolution of an old favourite. Unlike Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, this brand has far more legs left…in the horological tank anyway.

Conclusion

Fearless, intrepid and with a distinctive sporty licence to thrill, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon-IC Frozen Carbon collection should attract a lot of interest. Will it be as hot as the OG series that was nearly as hard to get as a Rolex Daytona?

Time will tell.

For now, like Blackout Watches have done with the tourbillon, accessibility and affordability are two key pillars, fundamental to opening up opportunities for consumers and collectors to indulge in their varied lineup.

Hitting all the sweet spots, in terms of slenderness, textural depth, interplay of light and instantly recognisable ML Easy Change System, the Saignelégier brand continues to evolve and stop many in their tracks.

And this time round, as Elsa and Anna sung Frozen, I for one feel they have certainly “Let It Go” with their resolute, brave, yet effective conceptualisation.
