Although YEMA has dallied with using titanium since the beginning of the 1980s, defined by Cold War tensions amid the rise of conservatism with Reagan and Thatcher, they have incorporated it into watches such as the Adventurer.

Forward the clock three decades, and they have brought out an altogether out of this world edition of their most famous diver.

The Yema Superman Titanium MoonTide comes into its own with its lunar vibes that can be seen across the texture patterned dial. Evoking the surface of the moon, it has been produced by way of an oil-press procedure on a sandblasted titanium base.

So what if it’s not a Speedmaster Snoopy?

The brand have taken their own steps quite literally with something different with this cratered titanium effect that has more character than the works of Molière. Plus it’s totally different to those run of the mill matt dials that’s been done to the dozen.

There’s also added protection with the double-domed AR coating sapphire crystal, benefitting from top notch scratch resistant properties with a leaning towards vintage.

Yes, there’s depth, alright.

And along with Super-LumiNova BGW9 Grade A on the batons at 3 and 9, not to mention triangular markers at 12, the bezel and 5 minute circles, it emanates in a glow as radiant as stepping on the red carpet at the Oscars.

“Scales” Inspired Bracelet

There’s nothing fishy going on here…honestly.

Leaving nothing to detail, their deep connection to their old-school bracelet is embodied with an updated “scales” bracelet composed of lightweight Grade 2 titanium that has vertical brushing. Ergonomic and easy on the eye, it fits well with this execution.

Not so much the horological elephant in the room, but there is a Marmite-type divers extension found on the clasp that will split opinion. Some will like it, while others may…not.

Handy to have, but it’s a pity there is a lack of on-the-fly micro-adjustment, which has been noticeable alongside other models. But we are not knocking it too much as the appealing “Scales” look lures you in, like the Sirens in Homer’s The Odyssey.

It has been slightly refined and slimmed down to about 0.4mm from that of its predecessors, with full brushing rounding things off.
