The Top 12 Most Popular Audemars Piguet Watches For Men

Audemars Piguet represents the peak of Haute Horologie. As a proud partner of the Holy Trinity trio with exceptional brands Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, they have been dutifully creating phenomenal timepieces since their inception in 1875 in Le Brassus. From the incredible creation of the Royal Oak collection in 1972, with their popular models like the ‘Jumbo’ and ‘The Beast’, the brand has been continually striving for horological greatness, creating the best luxury watches possible. Need we mention the religious clientele of Drake, Jay Z and Lil Wayne that willingly own many of the brand models?

For those who don't know too much about the brand, they have been very innovative, for example, creating the first minute-repeating movement in 1892, the first jumping-hour wristwatch in 1921 and recently in 2019, the thinnest automatic perpetual calendar. Oh yes, The Beast from Le Brassus know how to make watch fans tick!

Without further contemplation, let’s get into it as we run you through the top 12 most popular Audemars Piguet watches for men.

1. Royal Oak Offshore Rubens Barrichello II

Following on from its origins almost 17 years ago, the Royal Oak Offshore Rubens Barrichello II was released in honour of the former Brazilian Formula 1 race car driver.

For clarity, Rubens Barrichello has been racing since 1993 and has ranked 5 times among the top 5 in the world championship as well as breaking the record for the most F1 Grand Prix entries. Well, if anyone deserves a racing inspired watch, it's him. Three editions were released in titanium which had 1000 pieces produced, 500 pieces crafted from 18K rose gold and 150 pieces composed of platinum. While you would be extremely lucky to get a hold of a titanium edition, the rose gold and platinum versions are unbelievably rare and as such, are extremely valuable. The casing is 42mm and has its design clearly based around F1. This is due to the wheel shaped case back as well as the bezel which could easily be mistaken for a ventilated brake disc. As far as F1 watches go, this one certainly is in pole position!

The dial's face is openworked and given the specially designed Méga Tapisserie Racing, again, an ode to its racing history. It's not ostentatious either, leaving the colour to the precious metals that create the case while keeping the colours a simple black and white. But this ain’t as dull as a static 1950’s TV screen. The specially built strap is black anfibio leather which in layman's terms, is leather combined with Alcantara, a fibre offering special flame retardant properties. It's as if you are wearing a racing glove with this bad boy on!

2. Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ 15202ST

Created in 2012, The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo 15202ST doths its timekeeping cap to the highly revered original Royal Oak from 1972.

You can see this inspiration in the form of the visible 8 eight screws that adorn the octagonal bezel. It also sizes up as 39mm which is the same as the original and its steel construction is finished in a sublime polish and satin brushed effect. This allows the entirety of the timepiece to gleam light and draw your eyes to the beautiful Petite Tapisserie pattern of the blue dial.

The pattern is almost hypnotic and allows the silver indices and hands to stand out majestically as well as the brand logo, situated at 6 o'clock. While the dial and case are constructed to the highest degree, the movement is also not neglected.

The calibre 2121 is the same calibre that was adopted more than 40 years ago, showing its longevity and craftsmanship. It is exceptionally thin at 3.05mm which is ideal for the ironically named ‘Jumbo’ watch which measures just 8.1mm. With a 40 hour power reserve, the movement is skeletonised, revealing the intricate finishing that the brand has attested to regularly.

You can no longer buy an Audemars Piguet 15202ST at retail at the time of writing due to it being discontinued.

3. Code 11:59 Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4

Next up is the Code 11:59 Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4.

Measuring 41mm, this may be a fair whack in terms of size on the wrist but it’s all for a good reason!

The Code 11:59 collection was launched in 2019 and brought with it a fair few critics. Without remaining in the past, the collection has continually been evolving and has now become a staple of the brand collection.

The Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4 is one of the figureheads of the collection, frankly due to its unprecedented complexity. Made up of 40 functions and 23 complications, the watch is easily the most complicated wristwatch Audemars Piguet has had the pleasure of releasing. It contains among other elements a grand sonnerie, moon phase and automatic calendar. In fact, it is almost built to be a celebration of the brand’s technical prowess.

With the calibre 1000 that powers the immense number of complications, this is one of our top AP watches for men. The avant garde design, even down to the openworked lugs and curved crystal design is certainly one for the brand’s history books!

You can buy an Audemars Piguet Code 11:59 Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4 at retail upon request.

4. Jules Audemars Grande Complication

Oh we do love a complication! And The Jules Audemars Grande Complication does not disappoint avid enthusiasts. Launched in 1995 with a few complications under its belt, it houses the minute's repetition, perpetual calendar and moon phase complication.

The 2885 calibre is automatic and built to be absolutely phenomenal in both output and design. Take for example the rose gold skeletonised rotor which is given a very avant garde design, not dissimilar to Cesar's gold civic crown. The dial is made up of four sub dials in the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions, all of which have a white background which matches the sub dials. This does not harm their legibility, yet the black numerals and hands are enhanced even further.

The yellow gold case is classy and is on point with many watches for men in 2023. And the yellow gold elements on the dial through the hands and Arabic numerals are accentuated nicely against the white dial. If you search surreptitiously for the word luxury in the dictionary, more often than not you will find an image of the Jules Audemars Grande Complication.

You can no longer buy an Audemars Piguet Jules Grande Complication at retail at the time of writing due to it being discontinued.

5. Code 11.59 Starwheel

We simply had to add another Code model as it's a phenomenal collection!

Code 11:59 Starwheel - Source - Barrons

At 41mm, it features a blue aventurine dial which is highly reminiscent of the night sky. Needless to say that the constellation imagery that circles the edge of the dial face certainly fits in with the theme that the brand is going for of a beautiful night sky.

The black ceramic dial face offers a completely different colour scheme to the white gold case which allows the face to be the centre of the piece. If the watch couldn't get any more avant garde, the hour hand has been replaced by three ‘wandering discs’ which have Arabic numerals from 1 to 12 boldly present on all three. To those who are unsure as to what this is, wandering discs replace the hands and indices present on most watches, and the three discs rotate 90 degrees every hour to show the numerals of the correct time on each rotation.

The second hand is crafted from 18K white gold and stands out superbly against the pitch black inner bezel and the sapphire crystal which follows the same curved design as the rest of the Code 11:59 collection. The Calibre 4130 is very competent and has a 72 hour power reserve. Definitely necessary for those long nights away from your precious piece!

You can buy an Audemars Piguet Code 11:59 Starweheel at retail for £49,700 - at the time of writing.

6. Royal Oak Offshore

The Royal Oak Offshore was launched in 1993 and was promptly named ‘The Beast’ due to its large size in comparison to other Royal Oak lines.

Measuring 42mm, The Royal Oak Offshore is a work of art. Blending a custom ‘Havana’ alligator leather strap, specifically made for this model, it is reminiscent of a Cuban cigar hue. We really think this one is smoking.

The crown is crafted out of black ceramic and so are the pushers which offer a clear contrast to the steel case and bezel. Brown isn’t really a colour associated with the brand so for them to utilise it on both the strap and dial is a very bold move. The steel case is built with the same construction as other Royal Oak models, as 8 screws are bolted through the bezel into the familiar octagonal bezel. The choice of white gold for the hour and minute hands as well as the edging of the numerals is the brand’s way of reminding that they show prestige and luxury even in the smallest elements of the watch.

The Méga-tapisserie dial texture looks incredible on the brown dial, especially because the colours already contrast so much within the watch. This allows further legibility and gives the indices and block blue coloured dials a chance at standing out even further. The watch is marmite in its abrasive colour scheme but Chrono Hunter thinks it looks awesome as it shows the brand not conforming to the traditional black or white dial scheme. Nice one!

You can buy an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore # 26470st.oo.a099cr.01 at retail when you plan an appointment.

7. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore

This Audemars Piguet model has something which is rather unusual in the Offshore catalogue.

Instead of using the traditional stainless steel construction which the brand uses to great effect, this edition goes for a titanium construction. Titanium has inherent upgrades to stainless steel, including being lighter and more durable. The lightness of the watch means you can wear it without feeling like you're doing an arm workout with it on your wrist. No need to sweat anymore during that important business meeting!

The ceramic bezel is grey, as well as the crown and pushers, meaning the entire watch is seamless. While we appreciate the boldness of the other Offshore model mentioned in this article, there is nothing wrong with a classic colour scheme! Utilising the same Mega Tapisserie dial as its brethren, the date aperture at 3 o'clock as well as the three sub dials stand out superbly due to their block colour backgrounds in comparison to the tile background provided by the Taprisserie dial.

With a similarly grey rubber strap, the watch is smart and doesn't need flash and glamour. It looks refined, sleek and can be worn with a multitude of outfits, from suits to shorts! You can no longer buy an Audemars Piguet Ref 26470io.oo.a006ca.01 at retail at the time of writing due to it being discontinued.

8. Royal Oak Selfwinding 37mm

At 37mm, The Royal Oak Self winding is the ideal size for the modern man who doesn't want a monster on his wrist. Sort of like the Rolex Deepsea if you get what we mean.

Admittedly, it is one of the more flashy models in the brand’s portfolio but we happen to think that there's a time and a place for showboating. Take for example its distinctive turquoise dial which contrasts perfectly with the 18K yellow gold case. If you want to find out the lowdown on the new 37mm AP Royal Oak turquoise dial, check out our thoughts here

The turquoise dial has been crafted from the sunny shores of Mexico and as such, every dial is different due to the stone being impossible to manipulate in the same style. With such unique dials, the watches really are one in a million! The 18K yellow hands and indices keep with the colour scheme of the case and are very legible against the vibrant turquoise dial. It also helps that they are dosed with the usual Super-Luminova for clarity and visibility.

The calibre 5900 is an automatic calibre and displays only the key details, namely the hours, minutes, seconds and date. For those who know their stuff, the movement came in 2022 and is very slim at 3.9mm which is ideal for the 37mm case. With a 60 hour power reserve as well as a steady 4Hz frequency, the watch is reliable and avant garde as we can see the movement through the glorious exhibition back. Could this really be AP’s solution to the much overtalked (and somewhat overdone) Patek Tiffany Dial? Only time will tell watch fiends.

You can buy an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Ref 15550BA.OO.1356BA.01 at retail for £52,800 - at the time of writing.

9. Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph

The Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph represents the very first time that the brand has utilised black ceramic on the case and bracelet. Need we even mention the sublime Petite Tapisserie dial which gives this watch another dimension?

As the brand’s first watch with a black ceramic case and matching bracelet, the dial utilises the signature Petite Tapisserie dial style which matches other Royal Oak models. The black sub dials and a date aperture are also given a black shade which means the entire dial face is seamless.

The hands and indices are white gold which stand out clearly against the ceramic and are dosed with Super-Luminova to enhance the legibility of the watch. The octagonal design of the bezel is timeless and accentuated by the iconic 8 hex screws that are silver against the black ceramic bezel. What would we pair it with? How about a cream jacket to contrast this bad boy or go match the watch with a black suit shirt.

The 4404 calibre represented the end of the standard chronograph design and now sees three sub dials built at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock. This movement features a column wheel to enhance its stability and a 22K pink gold oscillating weight to ensure the watch is steady, plus it looks awesome through the exhibition back.

You can buy an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref 26238CE.OO.1300CE.01 at retail for £72,500 at the time of writing.

10. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15300ST

Released in 2002, this model represented the release of the in-house calibre, the 3120.

Sized at a solid 39mm and crafted out of stainless steel, it is a tad thicker than its predecessors as it sizes up at 9.4mm in terms of thickness. However, don't let this make you feel downtrodden, Timelords. After all, this Royal Oak is still considered to be of the standard size in relation to other brands. So, for you corporate gentleman, this watch can still peek out from under a cuff without being caught by your silky shirt. As for the case design, it is still given the classic octagonal shape with prominent nails and finished in the same sublime build as usual, combining both satin and polished finishes on the case and bracelet. This allows the watch in its entirety to be seamless. For those style freaks, dress this up with a three piece suit or down with a smart polo and loafers if you want to look as cool as a cucumber.

The calibre 3120 is built in-house and is automatic. The 22K gold rotor is visible through the exhibition back and it powers a steady beat of 21,600VpH. With a 60 hour power reserve, the watch is reliable and helps that the date aperture at 3 o'clock is given a quick set mechanism to save the faffing about.

You can no longer buy an Audemars Piguet 15300ST at retail at the time of writing.

11. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph

This release follows on from the Offshore models which were launched back in 2020.

Crafted out of black ceramic with small adaptations of titanium in the form of the push pieces and the caseback, it will invariably be easy on the wrist due to the light materials which make up the watch. Paying tribute to the first Offshore model released in 1999, it utilises both black and yellow aesthetics which culminate in a very legible and impressive dial face. The mega Tapisserie pattern enhances this legibility further as it is jet black and crafted in a way that brings the yellow tinged hands and indices forwards.

While the three sub dials don't have this yellow effect, they are still legible due to their solid background not to mention white hands and numerals. The black and yellow style goes through the watch and the strap too, as the calfskin leather strap is given yellow stitching. The 4401 calibre has a flyback function as well as a column wheel. This allows the chronograph functions to be stopped, reset and started all through one push instead of previous functions which required two pushers to make such amends.

Lucky that we have an exhibition back as we can see the 22K pink gold rotor which has been given a grey aesthetic in order to keep with the titanium case back. Utilising various finishes on the movement such as Côtes de Genève is a testament to the delicate and intricate skill of the watchmaker. Did we mention the watch is capped at 500 pieces? No time like the present!

You can buy an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph at retail when you request a price from them.

12. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT

The Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon could easily be confused with something out of the engine of your sports car.

Measuring 44mm, the watch has 100m of water resistance and is crafted from titanium which provides enthusiasts plenty of durability. The sandblasted effect gives this piece an extremely refined build, especially when combined with the green ceramic octagonal bezel, crown and pushers.

The Royal Oak could easily be confused as a part that dropped off Iron Man's suit. The watch has a few quirky elements which stand out from the green bezel and strap, as well as the titanium case. This includes the rose gold hands, emblem at 12 o'clock and crown position indications, noted at 6 o'clock.

The skeletonised dial features a GMT display at 3 o'clock and at 9 o'clock, a flying tourbillon which offers a moving aesthetic to the dial. This is an unusual feature amongst most watches. The calibre 2954 is hand wound and due to the skeletonised aspect of the dial and exhibition case back, it can be seen from all angles…blink and you’ll miss it. Throwing caution to the timekeeping wind with the standard finish found on other of the brand movements, the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT is from the future my friends!

As such, aspects of the movement are given linear graining and frosting effects to keep with the sandblasted finish of the titanium. The calibre has a highly impressive 237 hour power reserve which is extraordinary but expected for such a futuristic watch created by the brand. Paired with a green rubber strap, the watch looks seamless in its build and the titanium adds small breaks in the sea of green. For catwalk kings, pair this with a funky green jacket or dress things up with a grey suit to match the titanium.

You can buy an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT upon request.
