Alicia Keys may have talked about this girl being “on fire.”

Covering different types of watches, from pilot, dress and racing industries, red is livelier than any carpet from the Emmys and uber stylish for the modern wearer.
So, what shade works for you? From Grand Seiko’s mean and moody SBGH345, the sports-infused TAG Heuer Extreme Sport, or the Voutilainen with their complex KV20i, we’ll get to all of these in a minute or two!
Hey, we understand.
Horology is one huge industry that can become a little bit daunting if you aren't constantly on your game like a basketball player.

1. Zenith Defy Revival A3691
We did say we would see some pretty vivid colours in this article.

Well, only the finest watches will do. And we have the ability to not only boast their burning passion, but retain their sensational complexity. Like our first hot contender.
Source - Zenith
Taking inspiration from the original Zenith Defy watch from way back in 1969, this was and remains one of the flagship lines from the brand.
LEARN MORE: Question Time: Should You Buy The Highly Polished New Zenith Defy Extreme Mirror Chronograph Watch?
It saw in 2017, the first introduction of the immensely skilled El Primero movement reaching a rip-roaring 36,600VpH under the 9004 movement. For this particular model, we see a link back to the first ever Defy wristwatch with a dial. Will we see a complete overhaul over a loyal interpretation? Hang on a tick and let’s take a look!
Crafted out of steel, they are classic Zenith Defy, prioritising rugged strength and aesthetics over the gentle curves of its more formal competitors like the Rolex 1908 or the up-and-comers such as the Atelier Wen Perception Millésime.
Fitted with a very robust, 14 sided bezel, as per Zenith tradition, the sharp lugs and rigid case edges all pertain to an industrial feel. Polished and brushed, it’s a tasteful combination to keep all watch fans pleased, plus the ultra-strong 300 metres of water resistance is nothing to sniff at!
Under the sapphire crystal, we have a beautiful, wine red colour with a gradient effect, running from a lighter centre, to a darker, burgundy edge. Time is simply read via the unorthodox, silver hour markers and slender hands. All of them have lume through their centre, allowing for maximum legibility.
Unfortunately, there will be no Roadrunner, El Primero calibre! This Zenith Defy compensated with a 144 component, automatic Elite movement, has a 28,800BVpH and a weekend-proof 50 hour power reserve. Not a bad form of compensation for this piece that’s priced less than £10,000.
You can buy a Zenith Defy Revival A3691 at retail for £6,500 as of November 2024.
2. Chronoswiss Delphis Dracula
Our next best red dial is so spooktacular that it’s blood curdlingly brilliant, fit for Halloween.
Therefore, we’re taking a bite out of Chronoswiss’ lineup, particularly the 2024 Delphis Dracula, which is less gory Transylvania, and more hottest man in the office!
Source - Chronoswiss
An independent brand from the celebrated watchmaker, Gerd R.Lang, it is now managed by Oliver Ebstein, renowned for bringing the brand to the forefront of his home town, Lucerne, one of the most important cities in terms of watch sales.
This Swiss watch brand remains a titan of industry, winning Golden Balance/International Watch at Uhren-Magazin for their Chronoscope novelty in 2000.
So…does their latest model still hold the same levels of quality?
The bulky cases come in at 42mm x 14.5mm. Sure, it’s not ideal specially since they are made out of rose gold (not exactly famed for its lightness like titanium), but these types of watches hold a very special place in many horophiles' hearts.
Known as statement pieces, from the Panerai Luminior Marina at 44mm of Goldtech, to the Franck Muller V45 Vanguard Yachting White Gold they are popular due to their solid wrist presence.
The Chronoswiss Delphis Dracula is no exception. Offering 100 metres of water resistance while still retaining an exhibition caseback is very impressive, and the legendary onion crown is something of a self-professed icon!
For the dial, we have something extra special to witness below the sapphire crystal, and perhaps a craftsman’s dream in the form of a dual hand-guilloché and Grand Feu aesthetic.
Given a waved, enamel shade in the top half, this is fitted with a curved retrograde minutes track with ceramic markers along the top with a jumping hours display in a tidy aperture just below.
For the bottom portion, we have a visible bridge display over a grey, textured background. The small seconds display matches the same enamel as the top portion, ensuring a seamless transition.
With a hop, skip and a jump, the Calibre C.6004 is completely automatic and provides you with a 28,800VpH and 55 hour power reserve. Fixed with a Glucydur balance and Nivarox balance spring, shocks have never been so afraid of a movement!
Capped at 50 pieces, you can buy a Chronoswiss Delphis Dracula at retail for around £34,730 as of November 2024.
3. Grand Seiko Elegance Karasawa SBHY035
This best red dial watch comes from the stable of Grand Seiko.
The Elegance Karasawa SBGHY035 is a part of the brand's classy Elegance collection. Style is prioritised like a catwalk at London Fashion Week. But those Japanese influences that keep us standing around the jewellers like those queuing up for the first MoonSwatch, are still the calling card.
Source - Grand Seiko
For the Grand Seiko Karasawa SBHY035, the 38.5mm x 10mm case dimensions indicate that this will not be a bully on your wrist. Rather, its steel framework is an elegant addition to any wardrobe, especially since it’s complimented with Zaratsu polishing, producing a mirror like finish throughout.
The 30 metres of water resistance won't win any awards like a Golden Globe, but it’s acceptable for a formal watch. The dual-curved sapphire crystal stands clear of the polished bezel, creating a domed effect that the TAG Heuer Glassbox can only dream of.
READ MORE: Should You Buy The New TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox 39mm Chronograph Watch In Yellow Gold?
And with such a prominent sapphire crystal, we have extra magnification into this stunning dial. Taking its inspiration from the rising sun in Karasawa Cirque, or the open segment at the head of a valley or mountain, this is coincidentally where the Hotaka Peaks are based, near the Shinshu Watch Studio.
This is no back to basics but take your influences wherever you can, guys!
The dial is given a deep shade, and boasts a stunning gradient finish from a fairly light centre to a darker periphery. This allows the polished hour markers and sword shaped hands to be clearly displayed. We feel like we’re right there with the mountains…
Ticking with the precision of snooker legend Ronnie O’ Sullivan, they have the automatic Calibre 9R31 pulsating inside, offering a 72 hour power reserve and exceptional -/+1 second per day accuracy for the movement.
You can buy a Grand Seiko Elegance Karasawa SBHY035 at retail for £7,800 as of November 2024.
4. Seiko SJE103
Folks are always harping on about Grand Seiko, but rarely take the time to pay tribute to the OG brand, Seiko.
In fact, we’d like to go one step further with the very classical, King Seiko brand!
Source - Seiko
This had its days in the summer sun, between 1961 to 1975, wherein they sat at the forefront of Japanese watchmaking. Designed to offer precision, to suit the burgeoning popularity, they were relaunched in 2022, with many design throwbacks for vintage lovers to enjoy.
Of course, in 2024 a release has been sniffed out as being one of the best red dials of this year. Measuring 38.6mm x 10.7mm of solid steel, they utilise brushing and polishing across the board, producing a fantastic lustre from start to finish.
Everything oozes classic King Seiko, including faceted lugs and sapphire crystal, affixed on the top.
The 50 metres of water resistance won’t win any plaudits, but we expect such a stat for an inherently dress watch.
For the dial, Seiko turned to a little influence from what is defined as the Edo Period between 16703 and 1868. This saw specific patterns including basketry, ocean waves and netting. But there’s no red herring on here…just a scintillating catch of the day.
For our spicy piece, we see influence from fresh plum blossoms, giving slight flower patterns and a cohesive texture from start to finish.
Meanwhile, the silver baton hour markers and sword shaped hands are clear frontrunners in the battle of legibility, alongside the tight minute track on the edge and the delightful date aperture, residing at 3 o’clock.
Keeping time is the Calibre 6L35. Made in-house, this automatic movement is fitted with 26 jewels, offering a 28,800VpH and a 45 hour power reserve. As an entry-level number, this ticks most of the timekeeping boxes.
You can buy a Seiko SJE103 at retail for £2,930 as of November 2024.
5. Longines Legend Diver 39mm
The Longines Legend Diver is a huge aspect of Longines portfolio. Designed to be flexed in the water or worn on land, it was originally released in 1959, and noted for its revolutionary internal rotation bezel.
Source - Longines
Revolutionary, why do you say? Hold on a minute and we shall explain.
Easy, it means you don’t accidentally rotate the bezel, ensuring optimal safety for those proper divers needing to precision measure decompression phases, dive times, or how long you’ve left your luxury sports car in that one-hour max car park!
The Longines Legend Diver is 39mm x 12.7mm of solid steel. This is truly remarkable, as although this dive watch has a smaller diameter than most dress designs, the Patek Philippe Calatrava at 40mm, or the Rolex Datejust at 41mm, the Legend Diver still retains a whopping 300 metres of water resistance.

Wow, how’s that for strength and yes, this is most definitely ISO 6425 certified! Given a boxy sapphire crystal, this provides a legible view into the fabulous red-dialled display.
Given two crowns at 2 and 4 o’clock, this is in relation to their personal innovation, the internal bezel (not around the sapphire crystal this time!) and general timekeeping.
Given a subtle terracotta shade, this has a very visible bezel on the side, made up of white baton hour markers with large 15, 30, and 45 markers. For the dial, this features painted Arabic numerals and indexes with a thick Super-luminova coating, rounded off with silver polished hands and similar lume centre.
Looking sharp inside is the Calibre L888.6. COSC certified, these automatic movements offer a 25,200VpH and a 72 hour power reserve. Fitted with 21 jewels, the movement is affixed with a silicon balance spring for optimal magnetism resistance.
You can buy a Longines Legend Diver 39mm at retail for £3,100 as of November 2024.
6. Grand Seiko Elegance Spring Drive SBGA499
The Spring Drive from Grand Seiko is an essential part of watchmaking in horology. It is the Babe Ruth of movements…a real home run.
Conceptualised in 1977, the final product influenced by the Calibre 9R65 was released in 2004.
Source - Grand Seiko
The Spring Drive sought to combine both the important functionality of a mechanical and quartz movement. Therefore, we are treated to the power reserve mainsprings of a mechanical movement, with the rapid precision of the oscillator spotted in quartz calibres.
Why are we speaking so highly of this?
It’s their 20th anniversary of the Calibre 9R of course! As part of the desirable Elegance collection, Grand Seiko are giving technical excellence alongside visual brilliance. Details please…
The 40.2mm x 12.8mm case is crafted out of steel and finalised with their quintessential Zaratsu polishing. The 100 metres of water resistance is surprising considering the inherent beauty of the models, but we respect Grand Seiko for a second, looking out for the guys wanting to buy an everyday watch.

Down to the dial through the boxy sapphire crystal, the Grand Seiko Elegance is a perfect autumnal watch. Can you hear those leaves crunch beneath your feet? The cardinal shade puts you right in the middle of such a scene, even with no excessive flourishes on the dial.
The date aperture at 3 o’clock is a stand out, alongside the copper shaded power reserve indicator below the central hands in the middle of the dial. Time is simply understood via the polished baton markers. Nothing is arduous or a struggle to instantly read. Handy!
Reliability is key for such a model, especially for a grand anniversary! Enter the Calibre 9R65. Made in-house, this automatic movement has 30 jewels and a 72 hour power reserve, alongside an impressive +/-1 per day accuracy.
Capped at 1,500 pieces, you can buy a Grand Seiko Elegance Spring Drive SBGA499 at retail for £5,420 as of November 2024.
7. Glashütte Original Seventies Watermelon
Ah the 70s. Prawn cocktails, avocado bathrooms and…wait a minute…Well, Glashütte may have decided to have a bite of the fruit too, resulting in their very stark, Original Seventies Watermelon.
Source - Glashütte
The Seventies collection is traditionally loyal to the Glashütte aesthetic. Literally relating to the 1970s, a few horophiles may note the possible imitation of the 1976 Patek Philippe Nautilus with its similar case shape.
At 40mm x 14.10mm dimensions in stainless steel, it offers 100 metres of water resistance through the screw down crown for some light frolicking poolside.
Nevertheless, fashion dictates highly with this beauty, as noted through the tasteful decorative finishes from the brushes lugs to the polished edges and bezel on the top of the case.
The dial is an eye-catcher though in our humble view. Influenced by a watermelon, the lacquer, coral shade is a crowd pleaser due to its summery Miami Beach vibe and proud, bright aesthetic.
The Don Johnson of red dial watches, could it be argued that the black subdials and hour markers are related to the seeds? Perhaps!
Time is simply interpreted through the black baton markers and sword shaped hands.
For alternative functionality, we recommend you cast a glimpse at the dual subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock, that cover small seconds with power reserve indicator and a 30-minute counter, as well as the signature Panorama Date at 6 o’clock and sporty 12 hour counter at 12 o’clock.
Keeping exceptional time is the Calibre 37-02. Made in-house, this automatic movement ensures flyback chronograph functionality is maintained with a 28,800VpH, 70 hour power reserve and 65 jewels.
Capped at 100 pieces, you can buy a Glashütte Original Seventies Watermelon at retail for £13,300 as of November 2024.
8. TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 39mm
You’re looking to fire up your collection with the best red dials around, right?
Well, look no further than stunning TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 36mm to titillate our devilish eyes.
Source - TAG Heuer
The Carrera line from TAG Heuer is something of a legend. First spotted at Basel World 1963, the line is influenced by the grand Panamericana race that runs from border-to-border across 2km of arduous Mexican terrain. Fun fact, it was the exact date that the Porsche 911 was released.
The 39mm case is a watch of respectable proportions. Totalling 36mm x 14.7mm of solid steel, it will not traumatise your wrist, nor knock over that scalding cup of coffee. 50 metres of water resistance is enough to battle your daily routine, but we wouldn’t flex it in the ocean waves.
Leave that to the Omega Seamaster 1200M Summer Blue or Rolex Deepsea Challenge 126067
The sapphire crystal is domed over the case, pertaining to TAG Heuer’s wishes for us to get an unimpeded view of the dial. Coming in a streak of burning love, Elvis Presley can leave his hip thrusts at home. This particular watch is all we need!
Hot and ready to take on the boardroom, black suits or cocktail bars, remember, this is a darker shade, so your bright pink Barbie jumpsuit may not work for this!

Time is easy to read thanks to the applied silver hour markers and hands. Furthermore, the addition of lume through their centres and tips is a helpful touch to keep us in the loop, even when it's dark. We particularly enjoy the triple threat of a chronograph display, covering small seconds, 12 hour and 30-minute counters.
Of course, this would all mean nothing if not for the strong automatic Calibre Heuer 02. We are given some solid stats, including a 4Hz, 80 hour power reserve and a range of functions to keep the movement from being late.
You can buy a TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 36mm Red at retail for £6,150 as of November 2024.
9. Cartier Santos-Dumont Rewind
Remember Watches and Wonders 2024, one of the best luxury watch events on the calendar?
Source - Cartier
Where have you been?
We saw releases from IWC like the ultra-complex Portugieser Eternal Calendar, delivering moon-phase accuracy of up to 400 years, the most complicated watch of all time, the Vacheron Constantin Berkley Grand Complication with 63 complications, and the sensational Rolex Deepsea 136668LB in solid gold.
But, there was a release that seemed almost too avant-garde, too revolutionary in its display of what horology is commonly defined as. Enough of the word-salad, let’s get into the Cartier Santos-Dumont Rewind.
The 31.5mm x 7.3mm dimensions start in a platinum case. Given a brushed finish across the sides and the lugs, they are finalised with a polished bezel with 8 screws in pairs of two.
Offering 30 metres of water resistance, this is more than enough for a piece you would rarely wear outside of those ultra-formal events.

Fitted with a crown that’s complimented with a red cabochon, the shade is seamless across the board. And yes, we are talking about the dial! Given a square face within the case, this offers a rich ruby colour crafted out of carnelian. This precious stone offers a unique finish and texture due to the nature of the stone.
On the other hand, the Roman numeral hour markers are polished silver, yet something seems a little off…
That’s right, they are inverted, meaning they have 1 where 11 should be, 2 where 10 is and so forth. The only two that stand in their normal places are at 12 and 6 o’clock. Fitted with a minute track around the periphery of the face, this offers excellent precision alongside the fantastic hour and minute hands in the centre.
Ensuring optimal timekeeping is the Calibre 230 MC. The hand-wound, automatic movement is based on an inverted 430 MC calibre, allowing the hands to run backwards, working in tandem with the equally backwards hour markers.
Ok. so the 38 hour power reserve on this is modest at best with a steady 21,600VpH but it does not take away from this strong piece.
You can buy a Cartier Santos-Dumont Rewind at retail when you request a price as of November 2024.
10. Nomos Club Campus Nonstop
Trying to source the best red dial watches can be a little tough in a world of black and white Swiss titans.
However, independent brand Nomos have decided to fight against the regime. To be fair, with just 20,000 timepieces made per year, we are glad that Nomos had the insight to keep us looking sharp with such an exciting colour!
Source - Nomos
For 2024, the brand is releasing a new timepiece to their 2017 collection, Club Campus. Becoming increasingly aimed towards the youth of the horological generational tree, this line is far more colourful and interesting than many lines we’ve seen.
LEARN MORE: The 18 Best Rainbow Watches Fit For The Horological Trendsetter
We appreciate the slinky 36mm x 8.2mm steel cases fitted with a screw-down caseback, granting them 100 metres of water resistance.
That brisk shower outside won’t harm you, nor will a quick dip in the pool. From the domed sapphire crystal on the top of the case, we can stare down into the depths of a burning red dial.
Except, it’s not quite so moody.
The statement shade is bright, loud and proud. Beautifully made for the modern gent wanting to get out of the misery of a Christmas-season sleet, and into the warmth of a country pub, this allows the Arabic, Roman numerals and indexes to be flashed and enhanced with their white and blue luminova coatings.
Away from the bright colours and useful small seconds counter at 6 o’clock, something lurks like a beast within the Nomos Club Campus Nonstop. That is the brilliant, manual-wind calibre, Alpha-Manula, with an ultra-thin 2.6mm thickness.
This grants you a 43 hour power reserve, alongside a 17 jewelled movement. Not quite weekend-proof but it will be your partner for those key overseas meetings.
You can buy a Nomos Club Campus Nonstop Red at retail for £1,300 as of November 2024.
11. Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Radar
Our next red dial watch should no doubt be on your radar…
Bell & Ross have a habit of breaking horological tendencies. From their very recent Bell & Ross BR-03 Horizon, taking inspiration from the Altitude Indicator on aeroplanes, we’re taking a look at their equally innovative Bell & Ross BR 03-92 with sublime radar display.
Source - Bell & Ross
While it may not win any dress watch prizes, it may be a top watch for air-faring gents!
So, in the spirit of the private jet lovers, the men who enjoy the airport runs (even with the kids losing their passports), we introduce the technically advanced Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Radar. The King of dashboard instruments have done the business again with their legendary round in a square design code.
Crafted out of black ceramic, the Paris-based brand opt for only the most durable and industrial case material possible. Ceramic is famed for its excellent properties, including excellent scratch and corrosion resistance, alongside being hypoallergenic and lightweight.
The emblematic square case with the four prominent screws is completely blacked out, leaving an almost spyware, James Bond styled dial to be displayed through.
Taking its inspiration from the systems used in Airport Traffic Control Towers and in the planes themselves, the dark colour shows a series of concentric discs that physically rotate between each other. This outer disc references the hours and a passenger plane. While the inner disc covers a fighter jet with the minutes.
Simply refer to the analogue central hand to cover the seconds. This artistic decision is very apt to real life, as the fighter jets tend to move quicker than the passenger plane. This is replicated by the minute hand moving around the entirety of the dial upon each turn of the hour ring.
Totalling 100 metres of water resistance, this red dial watch is functional, low-key, and tough on those situations where you need to keep water away. Ensuring this playful demonstration in running on time, they employ the BR-CAL.302 automatic movement to provide a 28,800VpH alongside a 38 hour power reserve.
Capped at 999 models, you can buy a Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Red Radar at retail for £3,900 as of November 2024.
12. Breitling Top Time B01 Chevrolet Corvette
As worn by Sean Connery in Thunderball from 1965, the Breitling Top Time is arguably one of the brand’s most popular series.
But Gentleman, that was some six decades ago. It’s time to restart your engines!
Source - Breitling
And with our engines all warmed up and our horological pistons pumping like the Roadrunner, we turn our eyes to the ultra-sporty Breitling Top Time B01 Chevrolet Corvette.
Looking back to the 1960s, Willy Breitling sought to capitalise on this period of free-and-easy living and cruising lifestyles, with his stunning Top Time collection.
Designed to be a youthful chronograph watch, 2024 saw a completely refreshed aesthetic, in collaboration with some of the biggest racing car brands to date.
From the Top Time B21 Ford Mustang to the Shelby Cobra, shall we cast our eyes to the sensational B01 Chevrolet Corvette? Stick your key in the ignition and let’s get going! Coming in at 41mm x 13.30mm, they are crafted out of stainless steel.
Given a polished aesthetic across the top, lugs and the brushed case sides, there are polished pushers and a ridged crown to alter the functions on the face.
We’ll get to that in a moment…
Fitted with a screw-down caseback and non-screw lock crown, the Top Time B01 Chevrolet Corvette ensures you’ll be living more in the fast lane than Vin Diesel. With 100 metres of water resistance, referencing their durability, it makes them the perfect everyday driver.
This case is not an exciting material in horology, but Breitling makes it shine through when placed behind the red dial.
Influenced by the Sting Ray era of the Corvette, the shade is noted on the 1959 Corvette prototype, including its racing shade. Soft top or open roof? We’ll let you fight that out for another time. Nonetheless, we know that this Top Time is a valued interpretation of the vehicle.
Atop the colour is a triple black chronograph display at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. Given a black tachymetric scale around the periphery, these allow the users to competently measure speed when in the jet-stream of another motor, or chasing down that last train.
Time is simply read via the silver baton hour markers and central hands. These are easily distinguished from the red and black colour scheme, while we particularly like the cross flag emblem found on the Sting Ray below 12 o’clock.
We said that this is a keen rendition of the Corvette Sting Ray, right? Well, under this fabulous dial is the tubthumping, automatic Breitling 01 with sturdy 70 hour power reserve and 28,800VpH movement.
You can buy a Breitling Top Time B01 Chevrolet Corvette at retail for £6,450 as of November 2024.
13. Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Xiali Calendar
Of course we had to put the brand of King Charles III on this best red dial list.
Switzerland-based, Parmigiani Fleurier is arguably one of the best watch brands on the planet.
Source - Parmigiani Fleurier
As the first to create the continuous mechanical Hegirian calendar, and winning the Innovation Prize at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix with their Tonda Hijri Perpetual Calendar in 2020, they have every right to take their foot off the gas.
But 2023 saw a fresh play on the Tonda line, with a few complications that may make some technical-loving horophiles a little hot under the collar. This stainless steel case comes in at 42mm x 12.2mm.
Polished and brushed from top to bottom, they decide to really take things up a gear or two when introducing their bezel on the top of the case, crafted out of 950 platinum. Yes, you heard that right. Plus, it still retains a decent 100 metres of water resistance!
Given a knurled finish, its hypnotic, circular effect is not only groundbreaking for a classic watch, but isn't as ostentatious as including a yellow gold or rose gold front for that precious metal hit.
Onto the dial, and we have a darker guilloché pattern that produces a threaded, low-key aesthetic. Around the edge of the face are 24 solar terms on the flange, relating to the Chinese lunisolar calendars, and are, as you can appreciate, highlighted in the same language.
Fitted with a quadruple sub-counter design, this covers the day and long or short month (29 days or 30 days) at 3 o’clock, a moon-phase indicator at 6 o’clock, month and intercalary month.
This is an extra month to keep the calendar in check with the seasons and moon-phases. This is positioned at 9 o’clock, and finally there is an exceptionally packed year, animal and element at 12.
Be it the deep blue night-sky on the moon-phase with contrasting dual yellow moons, to the subtle Parmigiani Fleurier logo over 1 o’clock, everything is perfectly aligned with the stunning face behind.
Oh you won’t be disappointed, unlike Daniel Craig’s latest flash of the wrist, signalling the end of 2024, with the updated version of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, incorporating brushed PVD stainless steel dial (yawn)
To ensure that the calendars on the Tonda are accurate and the moons turn on time, we are treated to the Calibre PF008. Made in-house, this 353 component automatic movement offers a 28,800VpH alongside a 54 hour power reserve.
You can buy a Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Xiali Calendar at retail for around £56,585 as of November 2024.
14. Seiko Prospex Cocktail Time SRPE41
Next up on our roundup of the best red dial watches will no doubt quench your timekeeping thirst.
Creating Grand Seiko in 1960, Seiko is the forefather of the current leader of Japanese horology. Manufacturing the first watch in Japan to meet the standards of the Bureaux Officiels de Contrôle de la Marche des Montres, Seiko has earned its position in horology.
Source - Seiko
However, we would like to isolate their spectacular Prospex Cocktail Time SRPE41, judged as one of the most affordable and sensational red dial models in the current market.
Singapore Slings at the ready…
Coming in stainless steel, the 38.5mm x 11.8mm specs are built into a circular case. Polished from top to bottom, this stunning piece is hot horological property for the modern gent, interested in making a statement in the office. 50 metres of water resistance is okay, and shows the watch can take the odd splash.
Across the top is an ultra-legible box-shaped Harlex crystal. Standing clear from the polished bezel, legibility is exceptionally good. Simply glance down and enjoy a fabulous red dial with easy to read hour markers and hands.
Given a graduated aesthetic, with a moody centre to a black periphery, this allows the polished, silver Arabic numerals and batons to be clearly displayed. This is alongside the subtle date aperture at 3 o’clock with the minute track around the edge of the face.
Home to the 4R35 automatic calibre, it offers a manual-wind power source with a 41 hour power reserve and accompanied by 23 jewels. As a result, this ensures a seamless movement operation, allowing the stop second hand and date display to competently run.
You can buy a Seiko SRPE41 at retail for £400 as of November 2024.

Alongside its rarity, the Tokyo Lion SBGC275 is presented in a beautiful case, and finished with a unique yet legible face. 200 metres of water resistance? Absolutely!
Celebrating 20 years of the 9R calibre in 2024, this was the brand's groundbreaking 2004 release that allowed their automatic models a one-second-a-day accuracy. Drawing inspiration from the original Grand Seiko model from 1960, it references the sharp lugs and case sides.
Measuring 44.5mm x 16.8mm, the watches are crafted out of high-intensity titanium, which is both light and strong, particularly since it’s the Japanese-brands own “high-intensity” variant. Underneath the industrial feel, we have a strong talking point in the form of a rich morgenrot face.
This striking graduation finish comes with brushed strokes, imitating the mane of a lion.
Fitted with ultra-legible chunky hour markers and hands with a lume centre, these polished elements are easily identifiable from the face.
Sitting in the centre of the face is a triple chronograph display, alongside a date aperture, based at 3 o’clock and a power reserve indicator over 6 o’clock.
Celebrating the 9R calibre anniversary, this automatic spring drive 9R96 calibre offers an accuracy of around 0.5 seconds per day, and has a 72 hour power reserve for that weekend wearability that’ll keep you as sharp as a lion’s claw.
You can buy a Grand Seiko SBGC275 at retail for £12,000 as of November 2024.
16. Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygen
Founded in Hamburg, Germany, Montblanc runs as far back to 1906 where they actually started making fountain pens. Nothing like a swift career change to put your name on the map…
Source - Montblanc
First creating timepieces in 1997, Montblanc’s Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygen is a fun celebration of the brand's adventure. And boy does that tie us in very well with the wonderful red dial model in front of us.
Taking its inspiration from the sunset glaciers spotted in Antarctica, this watch celebrates the 80th birthday of legendary mountain climber Reinhold Messner. This gent was the first man to climb Everest without supplementary oxygen. Take that Norgay and Hillary.
It may be influenced by the tough terrains of Everest, but we reckon that this could be matched with smart jeans and tee combo, or a shirt suit…but only if you get those sleeves up.
At 44mm x 17.1mm in titanium, the case is thick and wide, despite titanium being the perfect choice as it lessens the weight compared to more traditional materials.
However, its physical case presence is likely to still be very notable on the wrist. The 100 metres of water resistance is some reasonable compensation, alongside the prominent bi-directonal turning bezel.
Given a ceramic insert, this features a very unique cardinal point design (north, east, south and west). Yep, this is more of an adventurers watch than the sublime Rolex Explorer!
Beneath the sapphire crystal, we have a hot red dial, influenced by a sfumato glacier pattern. For the non-Tenzing Norgay types, this pattern follows the colours of ice and rock at around 8,000 metres down.
Therefore, the centre graduates to black edging is very apt.
We have a quadruple counter display, revealing a world time complication in the form of two 3D globes that can rotate, yielding two hemispheres spotted with the northern at 12 o’clock and the southern at 6 o’clock.
In addition, note the date aperture at 3 o’clock, alongside two sub-counters at 3 and 9 o’clock, covering 30-minute and 12 hour counters.
Running within the models is the automatic MB 29.27 calibre. Granted a 46 hour power reserve, alongside a 28,800BVpH, the movements offer very useful chronograph and worldtime functions.
Capped at 290 pieces, you can buy a Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygen at retail for £8,700 as of November 2024.
17. Omega Seamaster Aqua-Terra Two Tone Moonshine Gold
The Omega Seamaster Aqua-Terra Two Tone Moonshine Gold is a stunning display of the brand's imperious in-house materials, alongside a velvety colour scheme.
All that glittered seems to be gold with this ravishing red dial watch. Smooth and supple, this is a definite model for the office.
Source - Omega
The Seamaster Aqua Terra is the comforting middleman between the dive inspired Seamaster and the more formal Constellation collection.
LEARN MORE: The Ultimate Watch Collection For Under £60,000 - Tudor Black Bay, Rolex Daytona
In essence, it offers the reliable water resistance of 150 metres, alongside a small case size and precious metal variants. Yep, that’s a good enough precursor to buy an Omega Seamaster Aqua-Terra Two Tone Moonshine Gold.
With a case diameter of 38mm and a 12.3mm thickness, the steel and Moonshine combo pervades a mixture of durability, with a sublime precious metal luxury for the gent wanting to buy into rare materials...
Moonshine gold is the brands take on yellow gold, including mixing gold with silver, copper and palladium to produce a stunning lustre and stronger composition. If we look past the gently sloping lugs and the polished case stops for a second, we can see a stunning Moonshine gold bezel.
This draws our eyes into the fabulous red dial under the sapphire crystal. Given a sun-brushed, burgundy shade, this boasts the date window at 6 o’clock with tooth-shaped hour markers.
Filled with lume, this equates to the central hands, the arrow headed-minute and seconds hands, as well as the main hour hand. The background goes from a light centre to a darker periphery, while boasting a white minute scale.
Beating faster than a whippit’s pulse is the Omega 8800. The self-winding automatic calibre offers a 55 hour power reserve alongside Master Chronometer certification, guaranteeing the quality of the movement, including the 3.5Hz.
You can buy an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m at retail for £12,200 as of November 2024.
18. IWC Year of the Dragon Portugieser
It’s time to do a Bruce Lee and Enter The Dragon for our next best red dial watch.
The Year of the Dragon is a huge focal point for the Chinese calendar, as it indicates a year of prosperity, success and luck.
Source - IWC
And would you believe it, IWC have released a gorgeous Dragon chronograph that definitely does not have a sting in the tail.
At 41mm x 13mm, it is not an obtrusive set of dimensions, plus the steel case is beautifully finished with a polished bezel and lugs. Even the pushers and the crown on the sides of the case undergo this formal aesthetic!
IWC opted for a little Chinese influence in the form of their very regal red shade. The inspiration is due to the vibrant colour of fire, which is commonly displayed during the turn of the New Year. The colour is noted in Chinese culture for luck and success.
Well, we hope that your year so far has been filled with both!
Not only is it a hot colour, but it allows the rose gold Arabic hour markers and hands to be clearly displayed. Ultra-legible, this royal combination is complemented with dual sub-counter at 12 and 6 o’clock, alongside a rose gold minute track.
Through the exhibition, sapphire crystal caseback, we have a bold Dragon cut oscillating rotor in yellow gold. But, this is a mere drop in the ocean compared to the sensational 69355 calibre. Automatic winding, this movement offers a 46 hour power reserve and a 28,800VpH.
Capped at 1000 pieces, you can buy an IWC Year of the Dragon Portugieser at retail for £8,450 as of November 2024.
19. Grand Seiko SBGW321
Us Europeans will be jumping for joy. Exclusive to Europe, the Grand Seiko SBGW321 is a great red dial watch that uses Japan’s natural scenery to bolster their quality.
Source - Grand Seiko
For this reference, we have a spectacular aesthetic that ties in with some very fishy history… We’ll get into that momentarily!
At 36.5mm x 11.6mm, the steel case is fitted with a screw-down caseback, granting 100 metres of water resistance. The compact lugs fit in well, especially since it’s exceptionally ergonomic on the wrist. Fixed with a box-shaped crystal on the top, these watches feature an anti-reflective coating to counter the effects of light when you need to quickly read the time.
We refer to the luscious gardens outside Japanese properties for the front. Yes, the brand may well be the David Attenborough of horology given their close association with all things nature.
But if they are delivering off the conveyor belt executions of this nature, quite literally, we don’t mind in the slightest.
Commonly spotted in them are resplendent ponds, typically filled with ornamental carp. Typically classified as an aristocratic pastime, these carp are rich colours, pertaining to the colour of the model we have in front of us.
This even runs all the way down to the scale-esq finishes running in swirling, snailed textures against the red face. The polished hour markers and sword shaped hands are beautifully finished, alongside an ultra-prominent yellow seconds hand.
Time is of the essence, so the old Chrono Hunter slogan goes, and Grand Seiko equally appreciates it by using the stunning 9S94 calibre. Completely manual-winding, the movement offers a 72 hour power reserve, alongside a daily movement accuracy of +5/-3 seconds per day.
You can buy a Grand Seiko SBGW321 at retail for £5,290 as of November 2024.
20. Oris Aquis Date Taste Of Summer
Red and white may conjure many images in your mind. Strawberries and cream at Wimbledon.
LEARN MORE: A Collection Of The Very Best Luxury Watches From Wimbledon
Perhaps Santa’s outfit? Or how about a little piece from Oris, named the Aquis Date Taste Of Summer?
Source - Oris
Founded in 1904, Oris has always been a little bit funky with their watchmaking.
Need we cast your mind to Watches and Wonders 2023 with their Muppet influenced Oris Kermit ProPilot X? But, before we start getting too Oscar the Grouch on the lack of frivolity in the current horological world, we’d like to reveal the joyful Oris Aquis Date…and why it may be more than just a piece for those summer months.
Totalling 41.50mm x 12.9mm, the steel cases boast a sporty brushed aesthetic. Furthermore, add in 300 metres of water resistance like the Omega Seamaster or the Rolex Submariner, and there’s no reason this cannot transcend from boardroom to beach bar.
Across the top, they have a cream, ceramic bezel with red markers, split into a classic 60-minute scale. Used to measure de-compression phases, this is a key diving tool, or can simply be used to measure when that Christmas turkey is well and truly cooked.
Down to the details, we deep dive into a watermelon shade through a sapphire crystal. Yielding ultra legible hour markers and hands, they are all coated with a generous dose of luminescence, enhancing legibility in times of darkness. We know those parties can drag on!
Fitted with a sunray finish, this fabulous aesthetic allows light to illuminate the small intricacies of the face. The added date aperture at 6 o’clock is a similarly tidy finish to the neon red dial.
Time is kept regular by the Calibre 400. Made in-house, this automatic movement offers an incredible Hulk like 120 hour power reserve, and an accuracy of around -3/+5 seconds per day.
You can buy a Oris Aquis Date Taste of Summer at retail for £3,300 as of November 2024.
21. Cartier Tank Louis Lacquer Dial
Upon its initial release back in 1917, the Cartier Tank, was influenced by the branchards of the tanks Louis Cartier spotted during his stint on the Western Front.
Source - Cartier
Therefore, these emblematic rectangular watches feature straight sides with rounded edges, and are explicitly dress watches, despite their wartime heritage. This is especially the instance for the Tank Louis, with its burgundy allure and gorgeous yellow gold case.
The 33.7mm x 6.6mm dimensions indicate a case that is exceptionally slender. The 6.6mm thickness is very slight, beating other luxury dress watches like the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 6119 with 8.08mm thickness, or the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony case thickness of 7.7mm.
Befitting such a slender, yellow gold case, should be a face that is equally ultra-refined. Cartier treats us to one of the hottest red dial watches of recent times under the sapphire crystal, complimented with an average 30 metres of water resistance.
Lacquer produces an extraordinary effect. Creating a fabulous, matte like sheen, its aesthetic is not ostentatious or overly bright, allowing you to flex this in the boardroom, at dinner parties, or anything in between!
Furthermore, it lets the yellow gold hands stand out, alongside the Cartier text above the hands. In a classic minimalist way, there are no hour markers. Sure it’s not a tool watch, but if you want a piece that shows your luxurious side, you can’t really beat it for prestige and lineage!
Solidified with a yellow gold crown on the case side, and finalised with a navy cabochon, this is expertly finished from top to bottom. Keeping perfect time is the 1917 MC, an automatic, mechanical movement that offers a 37 hour power reserve alongside a 21,600VpH.
You can buy a Cartier Tank Louis Red Lacquer Dial at retail for £12,500 as of November 2024.
22. Maurice de Mauriac L1 Red Lightning
No, this isn’t Grease Lightning, but there is a high chance that we will be Thunderstruck when we turn to the fabulous Maurice de Mauriac L1 Red Lightning.
Source - Maurice de Mauriac
As the official timekeeper of Forward Festival Zurich, this is the brand that engineers the most creative designs to date, including the Züri-Date that comes with a blossom pink dial and has a portion of all sales donated to Zurich Cancer League.

Let’s focus on the enigmatic L1 Red Lightning to get our fill!
Crafted out of stainless steel, they are finished with a DLC coating. This not only adds an extra level of protection to the 39mm x 12mm specs, but makes it more mysterious with a darker, more low-key aesthetic.
Resistant to 100 metres of water resistance, we can be assured that it was made for battling the elements. This is especially since the crown is similarly coated in DLC, and features easy to grip ridges.
For the face, they are protected with a red anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Given more of a retro-feel than Magnum P.I, this is furthered by the popular musician, and Best Talent at the Swiss Music Awards 2018, CRIMER.
After all, he is a huge fan and ambassador of the piece.
This is therefore given a distinctly red dial. They cleverly opt for a black background to drop the severity of the shade, allowing the neon red baton markers and hands to clearly stand out.
Legible and truly standout, this is the ultimate piece for the cultural icon! The watch is kept alive by the Calibre G100 La Joux-Perret. This automatic movement has a very generous 68 hour power reserve, and runs at a consistent 4Hz.
Capped at 80 pieces, you can buy a Maurice de Mauriac L1 Red Lightning at retail for around £3,630 as of November 2024.
23. Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburnt
Chopard are usually pretty good when it comes to world health and charity.
Be it using only recycled steel in their Lucent material, to sourcing gold from ethical mines, we tip ouR hats to these eco-warriors.
Source - Mr Stateless
However, one of their biggest stunts was the terrific Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburnt that was released in support of the terrific Aboriginal Corporation. A worthy cause and a chance for us to buy a Chopards that has charitable aspirations and desirability?
Count us in!
Equating to a modern 41mm x 9.7mm, the cases are crafted out of Lucent Steel alloys. This is totalled of at least 80% of recycled material, and is both harder and more resistant to scratches than your more common material.
Offering 100 metres of water resistance, these watches feature a brushed finish from top to bottom. Featuring a sapphire crystal, this is glareproofed and allows for optimal vision in all circumstances.
For the dial, you Chopard purists will be happy to know about the Eagle iris that remains the focal point. Producing a swirling aesthetic from the centre outwards, this comes in a rich burgundy shade, from a light centre to a darker periphery.
Complemented with a lume filled minute track on the edge, alongside prominent Roman numeral markers and baton shaped hands in the centre, these can be easily spotted, alongside the tidy date aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock.
With a portion of the proceeds going to the Ngunya Jarjum Aboriginal Corporation in Australia, they are exclusively available from Chopard boutiques in Oz.
As for us, we particularly enjoy the Chopard 01.01-C. Made in-house, this automatic movement offers a 28,800VpH alongside a 60 hour power reserve. COSC certified, reliability and longevity is guaranteed in the movement.
Capped at 20 pieces, you can buy a Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburst at retail for around £15,500 as of November 2024.
24. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202XT
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin is perhaps one of the most contradictory titles in horology. Let’s first break that down!
Source - Audemars Piguet
During its initial release back in 1972, the Royal Oak was classified as being a “Jumbo” timepiece due to the 39mm diameter being classified as a large size during the period.
How times have changed!
Therefore, when this reference was released in 2023, they did so with the original 39mm diameter, and therefore took a playful swipe at the classic “Jumbo” nickname! This model has a 39mm diameter, complimented with an ultra-thin 9.7mm thickness.
Crafted out of titanium, these svelte red dial watches are exceptionally light on the wrist. Plus, the material is thoroughly polished across the iconic octagonal bezel, and brushed along both lugs and case sides.
Locked with eight hex screws, the bezel is locked into the case, ensuring 50 metres of water resistance. Perhaps the most exciting part is the truly stunning face.
Given a high contrast and dark burgundy shade under the sapphire crystal, this has a smoked aesthetic, running from a brighter centre to a black edging. The prominent, lume filled baton hour markers and hands are ultra-legible, alongside being stand out features of the models.
Fitted with a date aperture at 3 o’clock, they allow you a plethora of functions for your everyday lifestyle. Running at great speed is the Calibre 7121. This automatic movement grants you a 52 hour power reserve alongside a steady 4Hz frequency.
You can buy an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202XT at retail for £86,200 as of November 2024.
25. Schwarz Etienne Geometry Cherry
Schwarz Etienne started its horological journey producing movements and components.
Think Jaeger-LeCoultre when they made that legendary ebauche movement, the Calibre 920, as used by all Holy Trinity members, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin.
Source - Schwarz Etienne
Established in 1902, Schwarz Etienne have exploded into popularity, producing their very own hairsprings and balance wheels, alongside being nominated for the World Technology Leader Award back in 2020.
Yet, something a little… fruitier has caught our eyes in 2024. Enter the Schwarz Etienne Geometry Cherry!
Available in a 39mm x 11mm polished steel case, they offer 50 metres (5ATM) of water resistance. Resisting a brisk swim and a hand-wash, you’ll be far too concerned with boasting this beauty to your colleagues or dinner guests.
Within the bounds of a perfectly circular case, the models are fitted with a sapphire crystal on the top and the bottom, allowing for maximum legibility at the movement, and at the very attractive dial.
Built on top of a gold base, they seek to construct a cherry shade that is split into many different, irregular segments. Featuring Clous de Paris hand-guilloché to fluted elements, each aspect of the geometric dial varies in size, producing a disjointed, avant-garde aesthetic.
Even the black minute track varies from the edge to the centre. Luckily, the silver polished hands remain in the middle so you can still get the gist of the time, and there's a handy small seconds counter at 7 o’clock as opposed to the classic, central seconds hand.
We believe they call this finish dynamic. We call it plain crazy! Yet, Chrono Hunter loves a little horological subversion, so this gets a big thumbs up.
Keeping things prim and proper is the Calibre ASE 200.02. Constructed in-house, this automatic movement offers a 21,600VpH and a mightily robust 86 hour power reserve.
You can buy a Schwarz Etienne Geometry Cherry at retail for around £119,110 as of November 2024.
26. IWC Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month IW379405
Movie-buffs will surely be jumping for joy with this timepiece! The IWC Aquatimer Perpetual IW379405 was released as a prop for the popular Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Source - IWC
Featuring stars like Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson, the film may have scored an average 5.6 on IMDB, but this was a stand-out performer.
Coming in a gargantuan 49mm x 19.4mm case size, they are behemoths of the industry. These will likely be shunned by small watch enthusiasts, but that's more fool them. We are here for the red dial.
Crafted out of Ceratanium, this is IWC’s very own material that fuses titanium and ceramic into an ultra-durable, lightweight compound. Fitted with a screw in crown, this grants users 100 metre water resistance, all with the beauty of a sapphire caseback to get a clear view of the movement.
For the case sapphire crystal on the front, we can see into the fabulous dial. Given a dark black background, this is contrasted with strong hour and minute hour markers, hands and the minute scale based on the inner rotating bezel. Coated in lume, legibility is the order of the day!
One of the main selling points is the perpetual calendar display, and contrasting chronograph functions. Mechanically programmed to automatically read leap-years and different month lengths, the colour scheme is exceptional, meaning the red elements are instantly visible in all conditions. Oh this is a sinful number.
Ensuring the quality of the functions is the Calibre 89802. Fitting with their legendary automatic Pawl-system, this sees the movement of a very long 68 hour power reserve in the mainspring, and a consistent 28,800VpH frequency.
Capped at 25 pieces, you can buy an IWC Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month IW379405 at retail for £51,600 as of November 2024.
27. Longines Flagship Moonphase Year of the Dragon
The Longines Flagship Moonphase Year of the Dragon is a grand celebration of the Chinese New Year. However, its legacy is less aviation (Dragon pun!) and more suited for the timeless dress watch enthusiast.

First released in 1957 (as per the Speedmaster launch), the Flagship collection now totals a range of automatic variants, with soft cream dials, to moon-phase models.
To kick 2024 off, Longines decides to push the boundaries with the fabulous Flagship Moonphase Year of the Dragon. And we reckon that this fire-breathing timepiece may have just ignited this as one of the best red dial watches so far. Let’s take a look!
Totalling 38.50mm x 11.90mm, the steel cased beauties are fit for any desk, champagne bar or wedding table. Fitted with a sapphire crystal over the top, the 30 metres of water resistance isn’t great, but enough to survive a pre-meeting toilet-break.
For the dial, this display opts for a graduation effect. The neon red centre falls away to a black periphery, allowing the yellow gold, tooth-shaped hour markers to clearly stand out. This is alongside the central yellow gold hands. This is high contrast and offers a little luxury on a budget.
Furthermore, the addition of a moon-phase complication at 6 o’clock elevates them as timeless and stylish. Given a blue night sky with gold moon and stars, the extra date ring with added central hand gives us a useful, two-in-one tool.
Offering reliable time is the fabulous Calibre L899. The 72 hour power reserve and 25,200VpH allows the automatic movement to run the moon-phase indicator, date and general timekeeping.
You can buy a Longines Flagship Moonphase Year of the Dragon at retail for £2,950 as of November 2024.
