From Omega To Cartier, Here's Our Roundup Of The Best Looking Watches At The Emmys 2024

A New Year and a new era of filmmaking and horology. Who ever said the twain shall never meet? So, as the book is firmly shut on The 2024 Golden Globes, we turn our peepers to the Emmy Awards to see which red carpet actors, films and TV shows deserve to have their names in lights. Oh and the watches of course! 

After the 2023 Emmy Awards was delayed, this year's event brought more anticipation than another Moonswatch release…We can’t forget to mention the latest spawning before Christmas, the “Cold Moon Snowflake”.

Supposed to be the final Moonshine model of 2023, it features a cool gold alloy that gives a slight blue tint. Oh yes, it also has a MoonShine Gold seconds hand! Could it be a Tudor homage? Or perhaps Swatch wanted to line their pockets before the festive period…

Back to the Emmys and there were a lot of eye rolls, as predicted winners stormed the event. Brilliant spectacles like Succession featuring renowned actor Brian Cox (more on him later) won several awards including Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series. 

Interestingly, other stars outside of filmmaking like Elton John stepped up to take a few awards of his own. He has now accomplished the storied EGOT pattern, wherein the person in question has won an Emmy Awards, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award. Yes, Elton. You may not be an egotist but you’re still standing!

Other great TV spectacles like The White Lotus stepped up with Jennifer Coolidge receiving Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series while Nick Offerman won Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Last Of Us. 

With The Emmys done and the Golden Globes terminated until 2025 (Pardon Arnie, we couldn’t make passing reference to the former Governator being stopped at Munich airport for not paying tax on a luxury Audemars Piguet) don’t feel deflated for a second. 

A wave of films like Millers Girl and The Beekeeper are two great films already lined up for 2024. For TV show fanatics, series 2 of The Tourist will be released alongside series 2 of The Traitors which has been a smash hit for the BBC. Taking place at the Peacock theatre, Los Angeles, Mr Glover didn’t have any awards to pick up from the red carpet at the 75th Emmy Awards. Nevertheless, let’s not forget that the musician and actor has a solid supply of awards under his belt.

I hear the Screen Actors Guild Awards is around the corner. Winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo show after his amazing, one-man autobiographical performance in A Boy and His Soul, he has an Emmy Award stashed under his bed in 2022. This was for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series due to his tear-jerking performance as a recovering drug addict in Euphoria.

He may not have won any silverware during this year's Emmy Awards, but he took it upon himself to doll his wrist up with an equally beautiful Omega Constellation Globemaster. Young Mazino may be a little upset as he’s been a nominee for a range of awards, including the 2023 Online Film & Television Association for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, the same award for International Online Cinema Awards…and you guessed it…the same again for Derby Awards. Give this guy a break, please!

Winning a total of 19 awards throughout his distinguished career, including a Globe Best Actor award for The Night Manager, a Laurence Olivier Best Newcomer in a Play Award for Cymbeline and Empire Award for Best Male Newcomer for Thor in 2012, Hiddlestone has become a huge presence in the acting world.

Originally released in 2004, the watches came in a limited edition run of around 50 pieces. Only the rarest pieces for Mr Hiddleston! Sized at 43mm, rose gold is on the agenda while there is a funky minute repeater slide at 9 o’clock and fitted with an exhibition caseback. 

The face is entirely skeletonised, allowing the rhodium plated movement to be shown, not to mention other components like the Breguet hairspring. Featuring leaf shaped hands, it may be hard to read the dial, but this is more of an adventurous piece of horology than a tool timepiece. 

Powered by the Calibre 95911, the watches have a 43 hour power reserve and a Probus Scafusia quality Hallmark, relating to the high quality of the timepiece. Strapped onto a brown leather strap, Hiddleston adorns this with a charcoal grey suit. 

• You can no longer buy an IWC Portugieser IW524102 at retail as it has been discontinued. However, it sells on the secondary market for around £34,000 as of September 2024.

Winning Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in Bear, Jeremey Allen White doesn’t need any more trophies in his overflowing cabinets. Winning Golden Globes Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for the same film, alongside Critics Choice Television Awards, Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Bear has proven to be his most fruitful role yet. 

But he was not grizzly on the red carpet. Up he stepped all in white with a black bow tie. So what was upon his wrist? A little something that would make most horophiles go green with  envy!

Given a white face, the pink Arabic numerals stand out as do the similarly toned pink hands that are lumed up to the max. Given a date aperture residing at 3 o’clock, the dial is very minimalist. 

The timepieces are powered by the Calibre 1326 which offers a 28,800 frequency, a weekend-proof 48 hour power reserve and a movement size of 4.3mm. Built onto a brown leather strap, the watches clearly stand out from Jeremy Allen White’s white suit outfit.

Winning Critics Choice Movie Awards Best Young Actor for his role in Igby Goes Down way back in 2003, Macaulay’s bro now is the proud owner of a 2024 Golden Globe Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama award for Succession.

The shade is a gorgeous British Racing green sheen that allows the silvered Arabic numerals and leaf shaped hands to clearly stand out, alongside the small seconds sub-counters at 6 o’clock. Water resistant to 30 metres, we’d save this piece for your red carpet walks rather than deep diving expeditions off your private yacht.

Powered by the 82200 calibre the in-house made movement offers a 60 hour power reserve alongside a 28,800VpH. Thank goodness for the exhibition back, otherwise we wouldn't be able to see the Côtes de Genève!

Kieran Culkin opts to exchange the standard green leather strap for a black one to keep in tandem with the black suit he adorned at the Emmys 2024. It seems IWC has taken a leaf out of Vacheron’s book as this smacks of the Traditionnelle Tourbillon from Watches and Wonders 2023. Wouldn’t you say?

Brian Cox

 

During the Emmy Awards 2024, Brian Cox was nominated for Lead Actor of a Drama Series for Succession, but was beaten by fellow co-star, Kieran Culkin. He didn't seem to mind when he gave him a big kiss upon his name being announced.

Brian Cox has won two BAFTA awards, an Emmy, a Globe, a Screen Actor Guild Award and two Olivier awards. Come on, Culkin. Give him the Emmy instead! Perhaps the most interesting part of Cox’s performance (aside from the kiss), was his stunning throwback Jacob & Co SF24.

But it is the flip down calendar that gives us vintage vibes. The anthracite opaline shade is fitted with steel Roman numerals that show the current time. The above Split-Flap function relates to the main cities of the world with the relevant hour. The dial is entirely luminescent allowing for maximum legibility. Capable of seeing 24 different time zones just by pushing a button, the watches are powered by the JCAA02 calibre which has a 28,800VpH and a 48 hour power reserve. 

Reminding the wearer of yesteryear’s traveller when airports were emerging this is a great alternative to the oh so hot yet consistently desirable Rolex GMT-Master, specifically made for PAN-AM pilots in 1954. Style wise, the former Braveheart and Trials of Henry Kissinger actor paired this with a grey suit, white suit shirt and black bow tie. They may have taken his Emmy…but they shall never take his horological freedom.

Horological Highlights Of The Best Watches Spotted At 76th Emmys

You know we like to keep up to date with all the hottest timekeeping hits. But why are there two ceremonies in 2024? 

After the actors' strike that saw the WGA and SAG-AFTRA refusing to work in Hollywood, delaying many TV shows in an effort to gain better support, wages and protection, they eventually reached a deal on November 8th 2023…and life turned out to be not just one big re-run.

So the stars turned out in full regalia, one more time…along with their novelties to dazzle us on and off the red carpet. Here’s our rundown of the best watches we spotted at the 76th Emmys.

Wearing a Gucci outfit in a pitch black shade, the outfit is more like the classic man in black, Johnny Cash than an ostentatious attire. Think Patek Philippe rather than a crazy Franck Muller…

Professional funny-man and Hollywood icon, Bowen Yang managed to get a few laughs in while presenting the award for Outstanding Writing For A Variety Program at the 76th Emmy Awards.

Accompanied by fellow Saturday Night Live stars, Maya Rudolph, Seth Meyers and Kristen Wiig, Bowen Yang took fashion to a whole new level with his ivory suit, stark red shirt and, the most exciting part for horophiles…matching Cartier Tank Louis Yellow Gold WGTA0093.

As the watch is already inspired by the Art Deco period, we are not surprised at the unconventional aesthetics. 

The yellow gold hands work well with the case and are instantly well presented from the red dial. Think of this as the artist's variation of the Tank Louis, the Felipe Pantone inspired Zenith Defy Extreme, if you will. 

Inside, there is a manual wind movement, the 1917MC. Offering a 38 hour power reserve alongside a steady 21,600VpH, you will find reliability a steadfast approach to timekeeping that’s rounded off with 19 jewels to reduce friction between the moving parts.

Mekhi Phifer - Hublot Classic Fusion Black Magic Ceramic 42mm

Mekhi Phifer took to the second Emmys 2024 with the same charm and clinical accountability as his current role as the famous TV Doctor. Is there a medic in the house?

For the dial, this simple black face is complemented with smudged, vertical lines that create a striped effect. This in turn allows the sharp white baton hour markers and sword shaped hands to be clearly displayed.

Taika Waititi - IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 5N Gold 44.5mm

Taikia Waititi may have just been a nominee this year at the 76th Emmy Awards.

But that did not restrict him from showing his fashionable flair. At the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020, he took home the award for Adapted Screenplay and subsequently became the first person of Maori descent to win an Oscar.

Given small hacking seconds, the watches are jam-packed with useful features that may be more than the average man needs, but is a perfect choice for an event as glamorous as the Emmys 2024. 

Inside lies the IWC in-house 52616 Calibre. This automatic winding movement produces an astonishing 168 hour power reserve which sits alongside a rapid 28,800VpH. Totalling 385 components, it is complemented with 54 jewels for optimal functionality.

Ronny Chieng has become a somewhat influential figure in the TV world. 

As the main host of The Daily Show, he stepped up at the 76th Emmys with a big grin when claiming his award for Outstanding Talk Series.

So, what does a man who has gone from leading figure of The Daily Show do, when he’s told to dress to the nines? Easy, he goes for a classic tux with a contrast white pocket-square, while of course sporting the King of the Swiss watch world, Rolex.

If you like your comedy shows, you will know all about Rob McElhenney. Oh and the fact he is joint owner of Welsh soccer team Wrexham FC with fellow US compadre and Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds. Odd balls indeed. 

Famed for his role in every facet of the fabulous It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, including screenwriting, acting and being the producer, he took a more pedestrian role for the Emmys 2024.

Standing alongside his wife Katlin Olson, he presented the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Sure, he may not have picked up some more awards. But like James Bond, he had a licence to thrill in his light livid coloured tux, white suit shirt and black bow tie. With 100 metres (10ATM) of water resistance, ensuring the strength and durability of the models, this is in part, due to the strong steel material alongside black ceramic elements on the famed octagonal bezel, accompanied by eight screws, pushers and crown on the right hand side. 

For the dial, we are given the fabulous Méga Tapisserie aesthetic. This oversized checkerboard style stands wider than the original Petite Tapisserie finish, making it appear larger, and in turn, allows its features to be embellished. 

For example, the rhodium Royal Oak hands and small baton hour markers clearly stand out from the pitch black shade. Furthermore, the triple chronograph display adds a sporty edge, especially since they work in conjunction with the tachymetric scale on the periphery of the dial. 

The jolts of colour, present in red on the tip of the second hand and the two hands on the 3 and 9 o’clock sub-dial, clearly stand out and could easily imitate the rev counters of your beautiful Porsche sports car.

Stepping up in a fantastic black tux, Emmy in hand, there was something a little less golden which was the real dazzler on Jeremy Allen White’s person. Enter the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony 1410U/000G-H017. 

Sized at 39mm x 7.72mm, it is crafted out of 18K white gold and is a much brighter and refined alternative to yellow gold. This is especially since the Maison opted for a polished bezel and lugs, alongside a small crown on the right hand side. 

Taking inspiration from the original 1950s models, the rounded case is reminiscent of the classic era of dress watches. Heritage to a fine tee. Down to the hour markers, these rose gold additions come in triangular and baton shapes, alongside the slender hands. These are interjected with a rose gold, dot minute track on the periphery on the face.

Turning up in a style that was reminiscent of the 50s and 60s apparel, our next best watch seen at the Emmys 2024 is none other than a piece from the house of Chopard.

Worn by Paul Rudd, he was just on the nominee pile this year for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series. The winner, Ebon Moss-Bachrach was a deserving victor for his role in The Bear.

However, the Ant-Man star rocked up in a black tux, and paired it with a classy Chopard for that fabulous, luxury style. Disclaimer, it’s not the racing inspired Mille Miglia, but it’s far more fashionable than that.

While Goggins unfortunately missed out on the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series award, (that went to Hiroyuki Sanada in Shogun), Aaron didn’t lose face. By that time, talks were well underway from the award when Aaron Moten turned up.

Defying the boring convention of black and white tuxes, he rocked up in a neon red, British Queen’s Guard military style jacket with golden buttons that wouldn't have looked out of place outside Buckingham Palace.

As one of the ringleaders behind the brilliant Oppenheimer (and the subsequent battle against the Barbiecore fans), he returned to the 76th Emmys in the hopes of claiming the award for Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series.

Unfortunately, the powers of Lamorne Morris were far too strong in his role in Fargo, and he swooped up the award in his tidy, black tux. However, Iron Man was doing just fine, joking with photographers with wife Susan Downey, living it up as if he was kitted out on a private yacht, Cuban cigar in one hand and Richard Mille in the other.

After all, a man dressed in a fabulous navy blue suit would not require to shed a tear. It’s away with the black tux, as he returned to the horological podium with his gorgeous Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Reverso in an equally dark blue. 

Pink gold is the name of the game at this year's Emmys and Robert plays into it with the iconic, rectangular case shape that every enthusiast should be familiar with. Remember, this is the design that was used by British soldiers stationed in India, who were looking for a watch that could flip over to protect the crystal from shattering when playing polo.

Fitted into their Master Tourbillon back in 2009, it promptly won Switzerland’s Horological Museum of Le Locle Chronometrie 2009 International timing competition. Scoring 909 points out of a possible 1000, this confirmed the watch as the most precise mechanical wristwatch at that time.

Jonathan Bailey - Omega De Ville Prestige

Jonathan Bailey is a certified Fashionista after turning up to this year's Emmys 2024 in an Armani tux, with more buttons undone than a hot and heavy Game of Thrones scene. Did we really need to see so much chest hair?

For the event, he sat on the sidelines as a nominee for the Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series in his role as Tim Laughlin in the thriller, Fellow Travelers. Beaten out by Lamorne Morris, he still set the stage alight with his silvery velvet shirt and flex appeal in the form of the Omega De Ville Prestige.

The remaining gaps are dot Sedna gold markers that coincide with the PVD Sedna hands. This low key theme does not detract from the look, negating any wacky functions or adaptations. The white minute track around the periphery is a handy inclusion, especially since it’s so beautifully presented against the pitch black shade. 

Inside the pieces is the steady Omega 8800. There is a 3.5Hz alongside a 55 hour power reserve meaning you can swan from bar to bar effortlessly. Self-winding and Master Chronometer certified, this will ensure you won’t have to suffer the same technical fate as a standard movement.

Jack Lowden - Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades

Although he did not win a sausage at the 76th Emmys, he took the role of the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, where he was beaten by Billy Crudup in The Morning Show. But we are naturally more focused on the wrist check!

So, with a face that may lean on the side of indignation, Jack Lowden dressed up in a navy blue tux, black bow-tie and white suit shirt. But the greatest feature by far was the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades.

Eugene Levy - Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute

As Don McLean drove his “chevy to the levy” things were cooking big time for American Pie actor Eugene Levy. Like the Patek Philippe Nautilus, it went on to become a cult sensation and was the launchpad for other monumental shows such as Schitt’s Creek.

The Canadian actor took to the stage, not as a lead winner or a nominee, but as a presenter alongside son, Dan Levy. The father and son duo stepped up as the first ever generational partnership to host the Emmys.

With chemistry and charisma, Eugene flawlessly delivered a few barbs at the guests, and presented with the ease of a 77 year old veteran movie-man. Flexing a black double breasted black suit, those synonymous bushy eyebrows sat above some black spectacles. 

However, he had horophiles rubbing their own lenses with glee after seeing the gorgeous Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute on his wrist.

On to the back and there is no exhibition caseback, but a completely solid back. We know that this is a little troubling for Reverso lovers who enjoy having the ability to see two fresh dials. But this is a faithful ode to the original model, wherein a solid caseback would protect the crystal from knocks when flipped. 

Inside the watches pulsates the Calibre 822. Made up of 108 pieces, the 21,600VpH works well with the 42 hour power reserve, especially since it’s only a slinky 2.94mm thick.

Antony Starr - Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Day-Date Pink Gold 40mm

Is this Homelander or Antony Starr? No one knows anymore. 

As one of the lead roles from the hit show, The Boys, he stood alongside Giancarlo Esposito and Kathy Bates to present the award for Best Supporting Actress at the 76th Emmys.

Wow, imagine competing against the mighty Gus Fring on stage! Well, it could be argued that he stepped up as the champ of this little fashion showdown, even though we can all appreciate Esposito’s black tux and Mafioso style hat. 

Befitted in a soft, dark burgundy tux, our very own superhero dressed it up with a 40mm Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Day-Date in pink gold. That’s the way to do it.

Similarly crafted out of rose gold, they have lume centres that offer brilliant luminescence in all conditions. This is the same for the rose gold hands, including the seconds hand that points directly to the grey minute track on the edging. 

Opposing the sunburst, grained finish behind the hour markers is the matte centre circle, allowing the power reserve indicator over 6 o’clock and the dual sub-dials with their snailed finish to stand out. The sub-dials easily reveal the day and date functions, adding an extra level of detail to the pieces. So, what makes all of this tick? Flip it over, dear Timelords…

The exhibition caseback exposes the 2475 SC/2 calibre, producing a self-winding movement that runs the functions, and produces a 40 hour power reserve alongside a 28,800VpH. Look, we have a penchant for the phenomenal Overseas collection. However, this line is really not to be underestimated.

Matt Bomer - 34mm Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades Steel 

Rolling up in a dark purple suit and with a smile whiter than the last trip to his orthodontist is our next best watch at the Emmys 2024 courtesy of Matt Bomer.

However, the awards ceremony was not a particularly successful mission for Matt Bomer. Nominated for his performance in Fellow Travellers for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, he was beaten to the prize by Hiroyuki Sanada in Shogun.

Within the models skips the Omega 8800. Completely self-winding, the movements offer a 55 hour power reserve alongside a reliable 3.5Hz. Master Chronometer certified? Absolutely, expect a daily precision of -4/+6 seconds per day.

Conclusion

The Emmy Awards 2024 has become another brilliant event for viewers globally. Yielding around a 4.3 million primetime audience, these fans may have come for the filmmaking, but they certainly stayed for the horological goodness!

And having two ceremonies this year, means double trouble (and unadulterated timekeeping joy) for us avid horophiles. 

We saw a strong timekeeping lineup on full display this year. From Jaeger-LeCoultre being spotted on Robert Downey Jr to Eugene Levy, while perhaps the star of the show was the ultra-refined Vacheron Constantin Patrimony on Jeremy Allen White’s wrist. However, others may say that Jelly Roll’s fabulous Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was the actual winner.!

Wearing the infinitely dressy style of the Omega De Ville Tresor, the timepiece is crafted out of 18K yellow gold and fitted with 38 diamonds on the case sides and constructed with a yellow gold mesh bracelet.
