10 Of The Best Luxury Watch Events Globally For Dedicated Enthusiasts & Collectors

Were we always so well swamped with watchmaking events?

Well, time can be both our friend and enemy! After the Quartz Crisis made its mark on the horological world and mechanical watches slowly started to creep back into horophiles eyeline, there was only one party which watch collectors and critics flocked to like timekeeping birds of a feather. And that was of course Baselworld

Held in none other than the home of horology, Switzerland, in the current era, we are more than surrounded by trade shows and watch exhibitors, boasting the incredible talents of each horological manufacturer or top luxury brand

Perhaps one of the biggest is Watches and Wonders. The guys over at SwissInfo seem to think the same as they’ve found that it's one of the biggest fairs with “Nearly fifty watchmakers are unveiling their new timepieces at Watches and Wonders”. That’s a big figure!

So, are all watch celebrations locked into Switzerland? Just how established are each of them? And, most importantly, which ones are the best luxury events to visit?

We can solve that question, beloved Timelords. Take time out today as Chrono Hunter discusses the top ten best luxury watch events globally for dedicated enthusiasts & collectors alike, as well as the specific locations and dates.

Read on!

Source - Luxury Tribune

Its history stems as far back as 1991, involving a number of highly reputable companies such as Cartier, Gerald Genta and Piaget to create a trade show that showcased only the best Haute Horlogerie globally.

Initially known as Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), it was extremely successful, prompting 23,000 visitors in 2019. However, SIHH started to fall apart, including companies like Richard Mille leaving in 2020. SIHH then transformed into Watches and Wonders in 2020.

Last Date

2023 has just passed us, taking place between March 27th to April 2nd. This was the first time it was open to the public from Saturday, 1st - Sunday, 2nd April. Held at The Palexpo Exhibition Centre, Geneva, as well as a new feature which includes it being held in various watch brand stores around the city.

Boasting 50 different companies, it brought in a colossal 40,000 visitors. Covid-19 has obviously taken a toll, as this is a 20,000 person increase since 2022 with budding enthusiasts and collectors wanting a timepiece of the action! Of course, this also relates to the sad conclusion of Baselworld which permanently shut its doors in 2022.

Filled with around 1,500 journalists and 12,000 registrations for the touch and feel sessions, we can clearly see why this event has exploded in popularity. This is due to incredible new releases like the Rolex 1908, Patek Philippe’s 17 new releases, the Tudor Black Bay 54 and Vacheron Constantion’s adaptations of the Traditionelle collection

Next Date

Confirmed info, Timelords! The 2024 edition of Watches and Wonders is set to take place in the Halles de Palexpo from the 9th to the 15th of April. It is expected to be open to the public over 3 days with a special programme in two parts, namely The Salon and The City.

That’s not all. On the 11th of April, there is a brilliant spectacle taking place in the town centre. Now, we are not at liberty to say what it is, but we can only guess it will be as spectacular and sought after as the 2023 Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Le Mans Edition

Featuring companies like A. Lange & Söhne, Cartier, Bell & Ross, IWC, Patek Philippe and Rolex, all the big hitters are out for a party!

This is a perfect show for gentlemen who enjoy the niche elements of horology. This is a trade show that focuses solely on accuracy across a vast array of industries. EPHJ’s last show was from the 6th - 9th June 2023.

Representing the 21st edition of the event, the number of visitors has increased compared with 2022. Bringing together 750 companies from 15+ different countries, this is an increase from the 700 exhibitors from last year.

However, the best stat comes in terms of the visitors. This last show brought together 21,780 visitors which represented a 21% increase since last year. Featuring visitors from 5 continents, that stat really isn't a surprise…

The 2023 Exhibitors Grand Prize was awarded to MPS Watches for its new Oscrew oscillating weight fixing system. Expect to see that bad boy on a few different timepieces. Yet, if you are fearing it’s all niche content that has nothing to do with the horological world, let us put your mind straight - Approximately 90% of exhibitors say they are active in horology!
