The Very Best Yellow Dial Watches For The Modern Horophile
Skittles gave us the brilliant “Taste The Rainbow” strapline, but Chrono Hunter doesn’t need all the excess colours for this article! Today we focus on the best yellow dial watches for the modern gent.
For gardening fiends, yellow casts associations with new summer mornings spent watering marigold plants in hanging baskets or getting down and dirty in the hope of smelling that freshly cut green grass. However, yellow is extremely uncommon in the horological world.
It seems that the closest we can get - that is commonly used in watchmaking - is a champagne dial like those you might find on The Rolex Datejust. Typically, those colours are kept to blacks and whites, prioritising legibility or keeping to an understated styling as opposed to ostentatious shades.
This seems to be a much discussed among the horological community. Our friends at Chronopolis found that “When doing sports or diving a watch needs to be legible. A bright colour can help with this”. Perhaps the optimal colour is yellow after all…
And we don’t even have time to comment on panda dial watches which are as on trend with connoisseurs as pink dials. Don’t believe us? What say you Ryan Gosling, who was spotted at the 2023 Barbie premiere, rocking a TAG Heuer Carrera in neon pink.
Luckily for you, Timelords... We are off the colour chart! Like Jacques Cousteau’s chief engineer, André Laban, who preferred the original Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, Chrono Hunter is set to take a deep dive into the world of hues and accents.
Take a second first thought to peruse the following articles on the universe of tones and tinges that we have already covered to fill you with horological inspiration;

On that note, why don’t we follow this continuation of vibrancy and reveal the very best yellow dial watches for the modern gent.
Shine on you crazy horological cats…
Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph 44mm Night Mission
The Avenger collection has been at the forefront of aviation horology since its inception over 20 years ago in 2001.
Source - Breitling
The collection was so hotly anticipated that Breitling assembled a new Aviation Pioneers Squad. Composed of a number of iconic pilots, including Scott Kelly, an astronaut who spent a year of his life within the International Space Station, Rocío González Torres, who committed more than 1000 hours of flight time in a fighter jet and Luke Bannister. The latter is a hotly tipped drone driver who won his first World Drone Championship at 15 years old.
Doing away with the black, darkened misery of pilot pieces, the Avenger B01 Chronograph 44mm Night Mission is crafted out of ceramic with a 44mm case. This is locked in with a screwed in caseback and a bulbous, screw down crown that accounts for the remarkable 300 metre water resistance. Oh yes, you can definitely make a splash on your jetski or in the ocean while riding the waves
The bezel on top of the case has a 60 minute recessed scale with a bidirectional ratcheted design, allowing for maximum grip, whether you are sky high or diving deep. The sapphire crystal is cambered and glare proof, allowing for the neon, matte yellow dial to be incredibly legible, with the minute track on the flange further enhanced.
The background allows the black sub dials located at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock to be improved, especially the 30 minute scale at 3 o’clock which features red edging. The hour markers are stencilled Arabic numerals, pertaining to the military feel of the piece.
The models are powered by the Breitling 01 movement, a self-winding mechanical movement that is fitted with 45 jewels, comfortably fitting within the 15.2mm case thickness. With a 70 hour power reserve and a 28,800 VpH, running the ¼ second, 30 minutes and 12 hour sub dials, the general timekeeping is what you would expect of this top luxury brand.
The watches are fitted onto a yellow, calfskin leather strap complete with a titanium buckle. We reckon you’d look sharp with this alongside a khaki green suit shirt, or black bomber jacket for that aviation inspired look.
You can buy a Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph 44mm Night Mission at retail for £7,450 at the time of writing.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Quartz Chronograph 200M 43mm
The energetic Formula 1 collection has more lineage for enthusiasts than The Royal Family.
Launched by TAG Heuer in 1986. The colours were already diverse with the first models being made from stainless steel inner cases and coated with fibreglass.
Source - Brand’s Site
The timepieces were coloured in red, blue and pink, with large, bright bezels atop the cases. TAG Heuer released a Formula 1 which was bound to happen as seen through their collaborations with Formula 1 champion Ayrton Senna, partnering with McLaren in 1985 and Jack Heuer’s work thanks to his sponsorship deals with Formula 1 throughout the 1960s and 70s.
In fact, Ayrton Senna is a huge presence in the brand's lineup. Releasing models with his name on since 1994 with the first Senna Special Edition, the collaborations are still going strong with the last model released in 2022, dutifully named the Formula 1 Senna with red overtones, chronograph build and stylish black dial.
This brand new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Quartz Chronograph 200m 43mm is a brilliant addition to the horological racing world. Built into a 43mm steel case, the models have a solid steel caseback and a screw down, black PVD coating crown, allowing for a respectable 200 metres of water resistance.
The models are given a brushed aesthetic, giving the pieces a rugged design. The fixed tachymetric scale furthers the design of the timepieces as it’s given a black PVD sheen that stretches over the 43mm case.
The tachymetric scale allows speed and distance to be measured, adhering to the speed infused design of the pieces. The dial is given a crisp yellow colouring and a sunray finish that's fitted with three black sub dials and a small date aperture based at 4 o’clock. There are jolts of colour in the form of a red second hand, and red intervals along the minute track.
These TAG Heuer novelties are powered by a quartz chronograph movement. The movement runs the hours, minutes, seconds and chronograph functionality like 1/10th second, 30 minute counters and the date functionality.
Locked in with a three-link row steel strap that's fine-brushed like the case, we think this speedy number would look great alongside a brown suede jacket or a white suit shirt if you want an extra pop of colour.

Hublot Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic
Nike says “Just Do It” Rolex uses “a crown for every achievement”. And Hublot…well, they prefer to call it the “Art of Fusion”, a motto that has stood the test of time ever since they were the first to combine rubber with gold in 1980.
One innovation we particularly enjoy is their “Yellow Magic” material.
Source - Brand’s Site
Yellow Magic is Hublot’s own material, a play on a high tech ceramic. The material is made by finding the optimal temperature and pressure that allows the pigments of the yellow sheen to be maintained, with a highly tough ceramic case.
Capped at 250 pieces, the Hublot watch measures 42mm with the bezel that shines as brightly as the sun in a captivating yellow sheen. The dial is entirely skeletonised but is still considered yellow due to the flange, indexes, minute and second counters, Arabic numerals and the hands that adopt the very same yellow colour as the case and bezel.
Secured with a sapphire crystal that undergoes anti-reflective treatment, legibility is a top priority here. Capable of reaching 100 metres of water resistance, the models manage to blend first rate durability, with modernity as seen through the open worked effect.
Powered by the HUB1280 UNICO Manufacture Self-Winding Chronograph Flyback movement with a column wheel, it maintains pristine accuracy and security of the pieces. Capable of reaching 72 hours of power reserve, the movement is a fantastic piece that you can take on your weekend travels or overseas for that last minute business trip to Europe.
Fitted with a yellow and black lined rubber strap this happy go lucky piece is secured with a black ceramic clasp and a titanium deploy buckle. Project that summer warmth if you wear this with a yellow jacket, or a black suit to let the colour shine.
Capped at 250 watches, you can no longer buy a Hublot Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic at retail. However, you can buy it on the secondary market for around £22,000 at the time of writing.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual - Yellow Dial
Stop for just a second. This next contender is as classic as a souffle…but with a tastier offering. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual has an incredible heritage behind it.
Source - Rolex Forums
Launched in 1926, the collection earned its horological stripes as the first waterproof and dustproof watch. Worn by Mercedes Geitze as she attempted to swim across the English Channel, she returned with the watch completely unharmed. You may have guessed that the “Perpetual” part of the word defines the self-winding movement, the world's first self-winding mechanism with a perpetual rotor.
Did you know that the watch was strapped onto Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay’s wrist as they completed the first ascension of Mount Everest? What a roster of achievements! Rolex have since added a spruce of colour which would look right at home in anyone’s new or burgeoning collection.
Note the celebration bubble motif dial with a turquoise dial that was released at Watches and Wonders 2023. Another eye catcher is the yellow dial variation that was originally released in 2020. Discontinued after a very short run, they retain a lot of classic Oyster Perpetual features, including the brand’s signature Oyster steel.
This is Rolex’s proprietary 904L steel and enjoys a much higher degree of anti-corrosion and finish in comparison with its 316L steel counterparts.
Sized up at 41mm, they are fitted with a matte yellow dial face that allows the luminescent batons and tapered hour hands to clearly be distinguished. Forget you were wearing a Rolex? Take note of the crown emblem situated at 12 o’clock!
Powered by the Calibre 320 movement, a fantastic self-winding movement that offers excellent precision of around -2/+2 seconds per day, the movement is secured by a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and bolstered by Paraflex shock absorbers. And being Rolex, Superlative Chronometer Certification comes as standard.
Fitted with an Oyster bracelet, they are built into a flat, three link construction and secured with an Oysterclasp. We reckon you’d look sublime pairing this alongside a brown suede jacket or a simple black T-shirt for those more informal days.
You can no longer buy a Rolex Oyster Perpetual at retail as it’s been discontinued. But you can source it on the secondary market for around £14,000 at the time of writing.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo first touched the horological world in 1972 during the Basel watch fair when Gerald Genta created maybe one of the most iconic pieces of his collection. Let’s face it…we should give time to the man who designed the Patek Philippe Nautilus.
But we are here for AP, right?
Source - Audemars Piguet
The “Jumbo” title was conjured up due to its allegedly high sizing of 39mm upon its release (which is actually on the other end of the spectrum in this era!). Originally crafted out of steel, Audemars Piguet takes a step into the chamber of King Midas and returns dosed in yellow gold.
Following the classic design codes of an integrated strap and octagonal bezel, it is strapped in with 8 visible screws as per its predecessor. With a 39mm diameter, these timepieces are perfect to wear while out and about due to the unbelievably sleek 8.1mm thickness, meaning it can slip under shirt cuffs with consummate ease. Ideal to show off that “made it” watch to colleagues or clients.
The dial is heavily inspired by the same yellow gold construction and follows the classic Petite Tapisserie pattern which features a smoked gold-toned sheen. Take note of the beautiful curved baton applied hour markers and Royal Oak hands, all of which are given a generous dose of luminescence.
The models are powered by The 7121 movement. Running the hours, minutes and a date aperture at 3 o’clock, this baby is supported by 33 jewels, a total of 268 components, a whopping beat of 28,800 VpH and a weekend-proof 52 hour power reserve.
The integrated bracelet slides seamlessly into the case and is equally 18k yellow gold. Secured by an Audemars Piguet folding clasp, we reckon you’d look very sharp if you chose to wear this with a white polo shirt while kicking back on your private yacht. However, make sure you don’t jump in the waves as the watch only has a 50 (5 Bar) metre water resistance.
You can buy an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin at retail for £70,100 at the time of writing.

Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph 42mm
Chopard and racing are intertwined as much as The Hulk and Bruce Banner!
Source - Cloth Space
Chopard swiftly became the partner and official timekeeper of the race “La corsa più bella del mondo” for around 30 years today. The classic car rally started in 1927, taking place in Brescia, apex in Rome and finally finishing at Siena Piazza II Campo.
They later released a line of self-winding Mille Miglia Racing Colours as a fantastic ode to the race. Celebrating 30 years of the partnership between Chopard and Mille Miglia, the models were released in 2018 in five different colours featuring red, green, grey/white, blue and of course…yellow, a link to the Belgian flag.
If you happen to find yourself racing around in your Belgian yellow jumpsuit, the timepieces were designed to fit in like a dashboard instrument, providing your car follows the sporty yellow sheen!
Coming in at 42mm, these chronograph watches are capped at 300 pieces per colour. Crafted out of stainless steel, the circular case adheres to a dress like allure, but a fantastic level of legibility for racing fans. At 12.67mm thick, the pieces are rather chunky, but that's expected for some racing inspired timepieces.
Topped with a polished bezel, the sapphire crystal runs over the top of the dial and is glare proofed to ensure visibility at all times. Racing flows through the timekeeping veins of this watch, including a steering wheel emblem on the screw-in crown. The caseback is exhibition in style but screwed in with a Mille Miglia logo around the rim, allowing for 50 metres of water resistance.
The dial is named “Speed Yellow” as an ode to the Belgian racing team. The yellow is lacquered and features three silver toned sub dials positioned at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. You will find several functions here, consisting of 60 minute, 12 hour and 30 minute sub dials. Look out for the sporty Arabic numerals not to mention the large, lume filled, hands and the red-tipped second hand for legibility.
There’s a date aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock and a tachymetric scale that runs around the periphery of the dial on a silver toned rim. Powered by a mechanical self-winding chronograph movement that's around 6.10mm thick, it is supported by 37 jewels. The 42 hours of power reserve is a letdown but it does retain a COSC certified movement.
Connected onto a calfskin leather strap with intricate yellow stitching and a rubber lining, inspired by 1960s Dunlop tyre treads, we think you could pull this off with a yellow sports jacket when strutting to the racetrack, or white T-shirt for an additional jolt of colour.
You can no longer buy a Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph 42mm at retail. You can buy it on the secondary market for around £4,000 at the time of writing.

H.Moser & Cie Swiss Alp Watch Concept Dubai Limited Edition
The H.Moser & Cie Swiss Alp Watch Concept Dubai Limited Edition is released in collaboration with Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons. Celebrating the relationship between Seddiqi and H.Moser’s CEO Edouard Meylan families, this timepiece was released in celebration of the Dubai Watch Week event that happens annually.
Source - Lifetime Magazine
Sized at 38mm x 44mm and released in 2019, this H.Moser & Cie seems on the surface to mimic the case size of “Smart Watches' from that favourite fruity brand that currently occupy the horological marketplace.
Given a black DLC-finished steel rectangular case. The dials are protected by a sapphire crystal on the front, and a see-through sapphire crystal caseback. We like the minimalist crown that is screwed in onto the right hand size and features an “M” emblem as an ode to the brand.
The dial is where the party begins. An explosion of subtle colour thanks to a yellow fumé aesthetic with a sunburst pattern, the warm tones will certainly prove vital during those chilly winter months! The contrast with the black DLC treated case and the gentle graduation from the centre to the black periphery allows the watch to shine with beauty, while retaining a little moody charm on the wrist.
There are no hour markers here as the watch opts for an entirely minimalist design. Only the blackened leaf-shaped hour and minute hands are on show in the middle of the dial.
Powered by the HMC 324 movement, this vivid timepiece runs with 27 jewels, offering hacking seconds and fitted with an interchangeable Moser escapement and Original Straumann Hairspring. Complete with stabilised Breguet overcoil, they are exceptionally durable against all manner of knocks and scrapes.
The movement offers an 18,000VpH and a brilliant 4 day power reserve that will serve the wearer well at Dubai Watch Week or across the Christmas holiday period. These timepieces are fitted onto a black kudu leather strap and secured with a black DLC treated pin buckle. We think you’d look like a dapper gentleman pairing this with a black suit or navy overcoat.
Capped at only 10 pieces, you can no longer buy a H.Moser & Cie Swiss Alp Watch Concept Dubai Limited Edition at retail as it’s been discontinued. Keep your eyes on the secondary market for when a watch is up for sale!

Omega Speedmaster Schumacher Yellow
The lunar motivated Omega Speedmaster actually started its history way back before the moon landing of 1969, back in 1957. So, what was going on? The re-opening of the Suez Canal, The Sputnik 1 becoming the first artificial satellite to orbit Earth… How exciting!
Source - Rolex Forums
Built to be the first chronograph wristwatch in the world with a tachymetric scale on the bezel as opposed to being printed on the dial, the feature was exclusively designed for racing car drivers.
In 1996, Omega took the design even further by releasing an out and out racing Speedmaster and was launched (and subsequently nicknamed) after the racing legend, Michael Schumacher, a brand new Omega ambassador who joined up in the very same year.
The watch develops from its historical racing past by incorporating a racing-orientated minute track that closely mimics a white and black chequered flag. In fact, if you happen to find a watch which still retains the original box, the box is also designed to mimic the types of an F1 car!
Crafted out of stainless steel, the 39mm Omega models are nowadays a very modern sizing for a luxury sports watch, allowing it to be utilised as an everyday watch as opposed as just a piece for outdoor adventures. Take note of the tachymetric scale that is still displayed on the bezel.
The crystal deviates away from sapphire and instead opts for the vintage hesalite material. The hands are prominent baton style, similar to the hour markers which are chunky and feature a yellow strip through their centre. Featuring the classic chronograph styling based at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, they are all given red hands to add a touch of complexion, just like the main second hand which is entirely red.
The dial features Super-Luminova throughout, promoting top notch levels of legibility as a main priority. The watches are powered by the Omega Calibre 1141 movement. Built into a fairly slim 26.6mm diameter, the movement offers a frequency of 28,800VpH. The relationship between this piece and the racing world is closer than you might have originally thought.
Omega had a strong roster of drivers previously, including Ralf Schumacher and Michael Andretti throughout the 1990s who became brand ambassadors. In celebration of this, Omega released a red and yellow variation of this collection and launched the models from The Karting Track in Kerpen, Germany. Why, you ask? Well, this was where Michael Schumacher built up his driving skills. Therefore, it’s a very fitting location to release a cracking timepiece for the man of the hour.
Worn by Cindy Crawford, the watches come with a yellow leather strap or fitted on a bracelet. We reckon you’d look sharp with the bracelet option paired with a black suit, or a leather strap complimented with a pair of cargos and a simple black tee for those days ambling around the countryside.
While you can no longer buy an Omega Speedmaster Schumacher Yellow at retail as it’s been discontinued, you can buy it on the secondary market for around £2,500 at the time of writing.

Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Yellow Storm
Since their inception in 2001, Richard Mille has very quickly become one of the most innovative and controversial brands out there. Dare we say the Banksy of major luxury brands?
Source - Great Watches
From what started as an initial series of 17 watches in the RM 001 Tourbillon collection, the brand has exploded in popularity, becoming the mainstay weapon of choice among celebs like Pharell Williams with his RM 88 Winding Tourbillon Smiley and Mexican boxer, Canelo spotted flexing the Richard Mille RM 66 Flying Tourbillon with Red Gold Skeleton Rock n Roll hand.
In 2015, Richard Mille brought in the beautiful RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Yellow Storm. Interjected with moments of bright coloured flashes along the tachymetric scale, the writing above the two pushers and a ring around the crown are given a spike of gorgeous ambience. This is in stark contrast to the uber moodiness of the black carbon fibre.
Following the classic tripartite case, the watches are specifically made out of NTPT or North Thin Ply Technology. Essentially, this is the same material used in aerospace industries due to its lightweight yet incredible durable properties. Built with around 600 layers of parallel carbon fibre filaments, the layers are injected with resin and woven together, resulting in the wood like finish.
The dial is entirely skeletonised, revealing the genius of the movement in all its blackened design. Again, yellow reigns supreme, as noted by its inclusion on the outer rings of the sub dials, and its construction style warning tape around the oversized date aperture in the centre of the dial. Yellow is spotted on the ends of the hands and the entirety of the flange making these discreet undertones really stand out.
The automatic winding movement boasts adjustable rotor geometry, alongside a 60 minute countdown timer, 12 hour totalizer, annual calendar function and oversized date display, as well as a flyback chronograph. The watches are connected onto a yellow rubber strap with a titanium DLC buckle. We reckon you could pull this piece off with a black knitted-woven cashmere jumper, smart polo or a navy blue suit if you are venturing to that special occasion.
Capped at just 50 pieces, you can no longer buy a Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Yellow Storm at retail, but it sells on the secondary market for around £120,000 at the time of writing.

Zenith El Primero Rainbow Chronograph “Mango”
If you are looking for the ultimate flash of colour, you can’t go wrong with The Zenith El Primero rainbow chronograph collection El Primero Rainbow Chronograph
Source - Omega Forums
The rainbow name is inspired by the 1934 America’s Cup sailing competition, wherein the New York Yacht Club with “The Rainbow '' boat managed to defeat the British Royal Yacht Squadron. Maybe the greatest comeback since Liverpool overturned a 3-0 half-time deficit at the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final in Istanbul.
The Zenith El Primero Rainbow watch was released at Basel Show 1992 and was purely intended to be a sporty and sufficiently waterproof timepiece. The Zenith Rainbow Chronograph line as a whole has been kept pretty short, but none more so than the “Mango” variation which had a run of 470 watches.
When The El Primero Rainbow was released to the public at the start of 1993, it won the Best Chronograph Award in 1994, beating the likes of…yep you’ve guessed it the epic Rolex Daytona and The Omega Speedmaster. Even the trusted Speedy was not a patch for this timepiece.
Originally designed in black and white, the yellow “Mango” variation was not immediately loved as the black and white variations were more accessible and wearable on a day to day basis. The world though is becoming more colourful nowadays, Timelords! Just take time to consider some of the most coveted multi coloured watches out there like the Daytona Rainbow ref. 116595RBOW which fetches upwards of £400,000 on the secondary market. Furthermore, we could not forget to drop the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Music Edition which you can buy when requesting a price at retail, or The Hublot Big Bang Integrated King Gold Rainbow which sells for £146,000 at retail.
Crafted out of steel with a screw down caseback, crown and pushers, the Zenith 40mm timepiece is made to last and can be worn in a host of conditions. Providing 100 metres of water resistance it is fitted with a black diving bezel. With a luminescent dot at 12 o’clock, the combination of steel and black allows the mango dial to emerge.
The chronograph subdials at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock and Arabic numerals are given a racing edge. Furthermore, they are dosed with the highly desired and vintage tritium lume, due to its ability to patina over time and change colour. The hands are very slender with pointed edges. Meanwhile, the tachymetric scale is based on the periphery of the dial face as well as the date aperture which is situated between 4 and 5 o’clock.
The watches are powered by the El Primero Calibre 400 movement. Offering a 50 hour power reserve with a 36,600VpH, the movements are bolstered by 31 jewels and secured with a shock absorber and monometallic balance. Decked out with a 4 link steel bracelet and secured with a double deployant clasp, we feel you should pair this with a black suit or a neutral cashmere jumper.

Conclusion
Yellow may be bolder than blue and brighter than black, but if you pull it off…you will no doubt look the part in and out of the office. You cannot really yield a variety of shades of colour, you can only get bright, blinding or ambient. Luckily, the brands mentioned haven’t opted for the blinding shades yet.
For those days when the sun is beating down, we recommend you choose the Rolex Oyster Perpetual. What about striking those red hot deals or landing that promotion? You may find that the more refined Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin is the best choice with oodles of class and elegance.
This list has gone into great depth regarding the best yellow dial watches that are either affordable like the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Quartz Chronograph 200M 43mm, or extremely luxurious such as the Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Yellow Storm. We hope that these options give that extra wrist appeal when there are no more rays to catch.
It is a truly exciting colour that should be more utilised in the horological world. We’re waiting for the big brands like Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe to come out of their horological shells!
Sure, it may be a tougher shade to try and match with your outfits…but it is possible. Whether you’re clapping the backs of your colleagues after nailing a big contract, or trying white wines in the middle of Stellenbosch on that private vineyard tour, these inspired dials can be the next big upgrade to your outfits or collections.
And as Donovan once proclaimed, they certainly do call it mellow yellow (quite rightly).
