RoyalWatch: Prince William Omega Seamaster 300m
Prince William is the more level headed brother out of himself and Prince Harry. Heir apparent to the throne, he’s the next generation waiting to step into the boots of kingship. While he may have such responsibility on his shoulders and no doubt the possibility of jewels and crowns on his mind, he keeps himself to himself and keeps his luxuries limited to the public eye.
As such, his model collection is short and sweet, featuring only one model which we had a glimpse of at The Coronation of King Charles III, Join us as we delve into the intricacies and history behind Prince William’s Omega Seamaster 300m.
History Behind The Omega Seamaster 300m
The Omega Seamaster 300m stems all the way back to 1993.

In 1993, The Omega Seamaster 300m was worn by Frenchman Roland Specker when he achieved a world record by diving 80m underwater in a fresh water free dive. He was wearing the newly released Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300m and it instantly cemented the Omega Seamaster 300m as a high quality dive timepiece.
Success would continue to follow the model as it was deemed the timepiece of the year in 1994 by German magazine Armbanduhren and was worn by several sailors for the New Zealand team when they won the America’s Cup in 1995. Then it got all James Bond on us.
The Piers Brosnan era made a grand timekeeping entrance and with it the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m. This timepiece was worn on his wrist in 1995 upon the release of Goldeneye.
This would be the start of a profitable partnership between Omega and 007. The Omega Seamaster 300m would be worn at an altitude of 3000m and worn in freezing waters in Lake Theodule. Worn by the instructors of Ice Rock Club of Zermatt in 1996, the watch was confirmed as a highly durable timepiece, capable of dealing with the harshest conditions.
Think you should only wear the watch in the most extreme conditions? Tennis legend Martina Hingis doesn't think so as she wore it during her many victories, as well as swimmer Alexander Popov. 007 Daniel Craig proudly wore the very same Seamaster Diver 300m in 2006 for the film Casino Royale.
Featuring in 9 James Bond movies so far, we have a feeling that the list may run a little longer yet!

From its inception in 1993, The Omega Seamaster 300m has seen many great improvements. The stunning wave pattern on the dial from 1993 has been a constant to this very day! In 2006, the calibre 2500 movement took over and brought with it Omega’s propotary Co-Axial technology as well as the dial now featuring applied indexes and Omega insignia.
In 2012, the movement remained the same but the bezel insert was replaced with ceramic instead of aluminium and the dial gained a matte finish instead of the wave pattern. The final update which was released during 2018 at Baselworld celebrated 25 years of the collection. Powered by the newly updated calibre 8800, the movement is crafted in-house and is METAS certified.
The timepiece bulked up to 42mm while the dial gained a ceramic construction like the bezel. The dial regained its wave pattern but this time it was laser engraved to add a new dimension to the watch. Omega made further waves with the bracelet which also featured a few patents of their own such as a diver extension.
Prince William's Omega Seamaster 300m
Prince William’s Omega Seamaster 300m isn't the model you’d expect. But, we certainly think it is fit for a soon to be King. As a gift from his mother, Princess Diana, the timepiece holds immense personal significance as she tragically passed away in 1997 due to a fatal car crash.

He uses the reference 2561.80.00 or in simple terms, the version which is not associated with the latest model. In fact, did you know that Joe Biden wears the exact same model? This is the timepiece that still has the date at 3 o’clock and sizes up at 36.25mm. It’s still very much capable of reaching 300m, but uses the calibre 1538 which is a quartz precision movement and lasts for 42 months before needing to be replaced.
Prince William’s dial is blue, yet doesn't feature any of the laser engraved wave patterns that are associated with the later watches. Rather, the wave pattern is etched on and is visible when you take a good long look at the dial.
It does not utilise the ceramic bezel of newer watches either, instead opting for the aluminium bezel of its older predecessors. With all these new and exciting upgrades which a man with a personal net worth of £30 million can comfortably afford… Why doesn't he spoil himself with lots of lavish watches?
Final Thoughts On Prince William’s Omega Seamaster 300m
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300m is ultimately the professional divers model.

Built with a helium valve at 10 o’clock, the Super-LumiNova filled hand and indices and was clear as day in the depths of the sea. Combine this with the luminescent dot at 12 o’clock on the diving bezel and you can capably read and calculate should you feel the need to take a decompression phase.
While the model worn by Prince William does not have the patented diver extension clasp in order to let the model increase and decrease in size when in a wetsuit, it still offers 300 metres of water resistance.
Why does Prince William wear such a model? It looks amazing! The wave inspired dial offers a unique aesthetic which is individual to itself and it suits the steely construction of the model perfectly. We predict that Prince William will be heading to the Coronation of King Charles III in this very model!
The model also has personal significance to Prince William. The model was a gift from his mother, Princess Diana before her tragic death in 1997. Even though the timepiece obviously carries a lot of sentimental value, that doesn't restrict him from wearing it. In fact, it does the complete opposite.
Any photos of Prince William with a timepiece on his wrist will invariably be of him with the Omega Seamaster 300m. From wearing it as a qualified rescue pilot, watching Wimbledon with his dearly beloved wife Kate Middleton to formal occasions like his own wedding, Prince William is never without his beloved timepiece!
In fact he was spotted wearing the Seamaster as he greeted crowds pre-Coronation before pulling pints at the Dog and Duck in Soho, London. Time to get the drinks in Wills…we think it’s your round!
Unfortunately, you can no longer buy an Omega Seamaster 2561.80.00 300m at retail at the time of writing due to it being discontinued but you can buy it for around £1,500 on the secondary market.
What About That Other Watch?
Is The Prince of Wales having an affair on his Omega Seamaster 300m?
Two Watch William - Source - Netflix Junkie
When we were spotted wearing two watches, one on each wrist, one simple question was posed… why?
One possible reason is that his Mother Princess Diana was the first ever creator of the ‘double wristing’ fashion statement when she wore the former Prince of Wales iconic model the Patek Philippe Calatrava Disco Volante plus another gold Patek Philippe gifted from Prince Charles to Diana for her 30th birthday.
Worn on the same wrist however, Prince William is not adhering to his mother's trend setting style and as such, it doesn't seem likely that this is the plausible reason. The other model in question is actually a Garmin Forerunner 245 smartwatch. Well who would have thunk it.
This offers a more reasonable solution as it can measure calories burned and steps which fits in with the fitness narrative Prince William and Kate Middleton religiously adhere to.
Don’t worry, Timelords. Three decades on, The Omega Seamaster 300 remains hot in both Prince William and model enthusiasts books!
Other Models Prince William Could Consider
There are a few alternatives that Prince William could turn to in the highly unlikely event that he loses his precious Omega Seamaster 300m…or he’s mislaid it down the Dog and Duck.
Omega Seamaster 300m - Latest Edition
The most obvious one would be to level up his Omega Seamaster 300m to the latest model.
Seamaster 300m - Source - Omega
If he landed himself a fourth generation Omega Seamaster 300m, The Prince of Wales would be able to experience a number of upgrades to his previous model.
Utilising the new 8800 calibre, the model is METAS certified, as well as increasing to 42mm in diameter. Furthermore, the bezel and dial are made out of ceramic, allowing for the model to be a lot more robust and to give a better shine in comparison to its aluminium counterpart.
The wave pattern is laser engraved, ensuring that they clearly stand out from the dial and accentuate the applied numerals. The model is therefore a lot smoother both in build and in movement, allowing the model to be more seamless and stunning!
Overall, it provides a much needed upgrade to Prince William's beloved timepiece and will have more eyeballs on it than the Coronation of King Charles III.
You can buy an Omega Seamaster 300m at retail for £5,500 at the time of writing.
Tudor Pelagos 39
If you are an avid reader of our work, you will know that we absolutely adore the Tudor Pelagos 39mm
Pelagos 39 - Source - Tudor
Touting it as one of the best dive watches around, if Prince William wants to keep to the diving watch aesthetic, he needs look no further than the figurehead of modern diving watches. One of the hottest watches last year, The Tudor Pelagos 39 is smaller than most other diving watches and for good reason.
It cuts away the helium escape valve, instead focusing more on the design of the model with its titanium bezel with ceramic insert which in turn compliments the black dial and luminous white indices. Crafted out of titanium, the Tudor Pelagos 39 is built to last and is powered by the MT5400 calibre.
COSC certified and with a 70 hour power reserve, this model can competently deal with both yours and Prince William’s daily struggles with ease! Built with sunray finishing on the bezel and the dial, the model will shine more than the crown during the Coronation of King Charles III.
You can buy a Tudor Pelagos at retail for £3,850 at the time of writing.
Rolex Submariner
Prince William will undoubtedly want another few suave watches to replace his Omega Seamaster 300m. Enter, the one, the only Rolex Submariner. What else could it have been?
Rolex Submariner - Source - Rolex
Deemed to be the veteran of all dive watches due to highly influential construction, allowing it to be the first model to reach 100 metres of water resistance. Crafted using Rolex’s own Cerachrom for the bezel and their signature Oystersteel for the case and bracelet, the watches are infinitely more durable than Prince William’s current edition of the Omega Seamaster 300m.
The Rolex Submariner utilises the automatic calibre, the 3235. We like its solid 70 hour power reserve, the Submariner also features the latest Rolex upgrades like a Chronergy escapement, allowing the model to be more efficient. It looks gorgeous and would certainly be an ideal model to wear to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
You can buy a Rolex Submariner at retail for £7,700 at the time of writing.
Conclusion
The Coronation of King Charles III is a weekend of festivities, Timelords! Yet, we have to wonder, will The Prince of Wales bring other watches out of his horological locker to surprise us on such a momentous occasion? The answer will most likely be no. The model is more than a timepiece at this point. It’s a link to his Mother, the late Princess Diana and is irreplaceable.
Fret not. If Prince William doesn't bring out our other options, you can make sure your wrist game is on point during the Coronation of King Charles III and across the Bank Holiday weekend. The Omega Seamaster 300m is a stunning model throughout all its generations.
Prince William’s edition has a vintage quality to it, harking back to a time of aluminium bezels and battery powered watches. Now where did I put down that Gameboy?
It’s lasted for thirty years so we strongly suspect Prince William will be showing off his pride and joy during the Coronation of King Charles III and beyond. A man with unwavering loyalty! And he needed it…especially if the rain lashed down over the King's Coronation Bank Holiday.
