Featuring a Goldilocks 39mm case size, impactful orange bezel, matt black dial and global adventure illusionist on board, the Escudo Expedition Rich Limited Edition delivers balance, wearability and a hint of wrist worthy, sun-kissed vibes.
At A Glance
- Straight from the Ocean Seacrest line comes the latest model from Escudo owners Simon Correia and Richard Johnson, in conjunction with pioneering globetrotter and brand ambassador, Rich Manley
- Established in 2022, their horological inspiration leans towards Portuguese and British Maritime nautical exploration, with Correia’s family hailing from the island of Madeira.
- Spearheaded by figures during this period like Pedro Álvares Cabral, the first European to uncover Brazil and Bartolomeu Dias, they have pulled a horological rabbit out of the hat thanks to their collab with the daredevil voyager who has conducted expeditions to far-flung destinations such as Alaska, Namibia and the Maldives.
- Blending Swiss made movements into their watches, including the Chocolate Bronze, Silver Inox and recent Black Ice release, the final assembly point is located in Winchester, close to South Downs National Park.
- Like a Chateau Lafite, the Escudo Expedition Rich Limited Edition is geared up for those who appreciate the finer things, incorporating sapphire box crystal, bold orange bezel, satin black dial and a host of strap options, tailored for the most intrepid of thrill seekers.
- Though not quite the Rolex Daytona waitlist, there are only 100 pieces available with a base package and luxury option. The latter includes a complimentary black and orange parachute strap, similarly toned Italian Vachetta leather strap and stainless steel bracelet.
Like a fish out of water, Escudo watches make another splash with the newest addition to the Ocean Seacrest series.
This time round, Liverpudlian Simon Correia and Richard Johnson have joined forces with the David Blaine of adventure explorers, Rich Manley, resulting in another noticeable piece from one of the best microbrands this side of the Mersey..and beyond.

Their thirst for adventure is unquenchable and unquestionable, as demonstrated by the detail that goes into every one of their novelties. And the proof is in the pudding. There’s something almost magical about it you might say!
Which brings us onto their latest offering which they have dropped with worldwide adventure illusionist Rich Manley. His compelling investigations into indigenous tribes, environmental issues and sleight of hand may give 2025 Britain’s Got Talent Winner Harry Moulding a run for his money.
With nearly more expeditions under his belt than Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Mount Everest, wearing a Rolex Oyster Perpetual, what’s behind this latest execution?
As Gerry and The Pacemakers recounted in 1965, it’s time to Ferry Across The Mersey as we uncover more about the man behind this collab, before moving on to review the Escudo Expedition Rich Limited Edition.
Time waits for no man as they say…
Who Is Rich Manley?
Rich brings together his passions—archaeology, anthropology, magic, martial arts, and extreme adventure—into immersive travels that are encapsulated in this new watch:
- Iceland Glacier Rescue: He crossed Vatnajökull Glacier with ice tools and crampons, hosted by local climbers, exploring ice tunnels and towering glacier walls while connecting these landscapes to ancient Viking lore
- Global Expedition Series: Under his “Expedition Rich” banner, he’s trekked deserts, coral reefs, mountains, and remote cultural sites across Namibia, Sri Lanka, Australia, Washington State, and more
- Stake In Conservation: Not just thrill-seeking—he’s collaborated with wildlife and environmental groups like the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia and been vocal on man-made ecological tragedies.
In addition, his educational and training background fuels his tough, varied expeditions:
- Black belts in Kenpo Karate and Wing Chun, plus intense Shaolin Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Chi Kung—training began in his teens and supported with a minor in martial arts at Radford University
- Combines physical and mental discipline—rock climbing, motorcycle trips, sky‑diving, scuba—while studying anthropology and psychology
Rich Manley is not just an adventurer—he’s a cultural alchemist.
Using his multifaceted talents to connect, educate, and preserve. Whether scaling Icelandic ice, diving beneath the waves, performing magic for new friends, or highlighting endangered wildlife, he lives—and documents—adventure with curiosity and conscience.
With more chronicles than Narnia, his site, Expedition Rich charters his every footstep, exploring the globe, putting himself in all manner of scenarios such as ice climbing during sub-zero temperatures in the La Sal mountains, Utah.
Yet, he is one cool cucumber when it comes to his role as brand ambassador for Escudo watches. And it is this daring Evil Knievel style attitude that’s reflected in the latest addition to the Escudo Ocean Seacrest collection.
Personality Of The Escudo Expedition Rich Limited Edition
“We believe adventure isn’t just something you chase, it’s something you carry. Working with Rich Manley gave us the opportunity to embed that idea into the design itself. The hidden 5 of Diamonds isn’t just clever engineering, it’s a symbol of curiosity, wonder, and the surprises found along the journey. We’re proud to offer not just a watch, but a moment of discovery.”
Simon Correia, Co-Founder of Escudo Watches, talking exclusively to Chrono Hunter
Freddy Mercury and Queen may have regaled us in 1986 that it’s A Kind of Magic.
But it really is as far as this timepiece is concerned. More on that in a few minutes. The look is very much a tool style number with a satin black dial that’s reminiscent of a solid diver worth more than its horological salt.
Think a Tudor Black Bay Pro (M7941A1A0NU-0003) or dare I say Rolex Submariner, but for a far more wallet-friendly price.

The setup is similar to previous models and has cardinal markers inspired by compasses of times gone by. You know, the ones that Columbus and co would have used back in the day.
Note the triangular marker featuring the Portuguese flag, a nod to Escudo owners Simon Correia and Richard Johnson’s native heritage and capturing the spirit of exploration during the 16th century.
Located at 12 on the uni-directional matte aluminum bezel in stainless steel, the 3D lumed cardinal points and markers in orange are complemented with the same accent here for a jolt of colour. And trust us, this won’t be peeling anytime soon in the summer sun.

But like a TAG Heuer Monaco, we don’t need Steve McQueen to turn up the heat further.
The dial is finished off with textured white hands for first clarity while they are given a generous dose of X1 and C1 lume for those Jacques Cousteau wannabes to around 600 feet. Sure, this is no Omega Seamaster Ploprof 1200m or Rolex Deepsea Challenge 126067
Nevertheless, unless you are deep diving to greater depths, it’s not necessary in this case. Meanwhile, the detail has not been spared on the screw down winding crown which enjoys an enamelled brand logo in black. Again, like Rich Manley, there is more mystery lying within than an Agatha Christie novel
Well, almost.
Escudo in essence has several terms, embedded within their specific brand logo. Not only does it represent a shield, and the former currency of Portugal and Cape Verde until 2002, but inside this symbol lies the Cruz de Cristo. This is otherwise known as the Portuguese Cross (Cruz Portuguesa).
Did You Know…
An integral role in Portuguese history dating back to the 1100s, the cross was seen on native caravels and many other vessels during the evolving period of sea exploration
“At the core of this unique creation lies a remarkable Easter egg concealed within the sapphire crystal. When exposed to condensation, a holographic image of the 5 of Diamonds subtly appears, a nod to the world of illusion and a key element in a signature card trick performed by Escudo’s adventure ambassador, illusionist and explorer Rich Manley.”
Simon Correia, Co-Founder of Escudo Watches
Dimensions wise, it tips the measurement scales at 39mm x 12.8mm. To put this into perspective, it is 0.7mm smaller than an Omega Speedmaster First Omega In Space (310.30.40.50.06.001) and 0.2mm slimmer than a Rolex Milgauss 116400.
On to the sapphire box crystal which is polished and extremely resistant to scratches, scuffs and abrasions. Oh yes, even the Hulk may not be able to break through this bad boy with its triple whammy exterior and interior AR coating.
As for the caseback, this doesn’t disappoint either thanks to the two–piece closed aesthetics. In this way, it means the brand logo remains vertical and is etched with the limited edition number between 1-100.
Now for the tricky bit.
We are referring to the hidden surprise that they have incorporated as part of this new edition. And Manley has a previous history with the brand. In fact, he was suited and booted while travelling across the stunning Colorado mountains, showcasing the adaptability of the Ocean Seacrest Preto. Talk about once more into the breach.
“This collaboration is more than aesthetic; it’s experiential. Each Expedition Rich includes an exclusive tutorial where Manley teaches owners how to perform the card trick themselves — offering not just a timepiece, but a shared moment of magic between maker, wearer, and story.”
Simon Correia, Co-Founder of Escudo Watches
When breathing on the case of the Escudo Expedition Rich Limited Edition or condensation occurs, it exposes the five of diamonds. This harks back to Rich Manley’s quintessential magic trick where he performs a magical act by revealing to the said individual their chosen card. And that is? Have you guessed at all?
The five of diamonds.
In addition, there is some excellent finishing going on with polishing and brushed facets. Factor in drilled lugs that makes on the fly strap adjustments a doddle. Great for switching up the smart boardroom look into the late night cocktail bar allure.

Speaking of bracelets, depending on which package you opt for, there are three available with branding on every part of the stainless steel selection.
This is rounded off by a dual nylon sail cloth and FKM rubber strap; wearers can benefit from premium comfort, perfect for everyday use.
On top of this, there is a parachute strap in orange and black for extra ruggedness that would put Gerard Butler to shame and an Italian Vachetta leather strap for gents looking for a touch of refinement.
Quite possibly the Phileas Fogg of watches, there is no doubt a sprinkling of fairydust in the air.

What’s Our View?
If you want to buy a watch with great clarity, versatility and a smidgen of adventure, the Escudo Expedition Rich Limited Edition has just the right balance to ensure it does not go overboard.
The raised bezel markers are a nice touch while the satin black dial gives it a clean finish and optimum visibility. They have managed to tell the narrative thanks to their sea faring, Portuguese inspired back story which is reflected across small details on the watch including the shield logo.
Tie this theme into the involvement of brand ambassador Rich Manley, and this is arguably a model to consider at a price point that’s far, far less than £5,000. The trio of straps including Vachetta leather is another nice touch, adding a melange of premium finishes
Conclusion
On the surface, it is a diver with bags of attitude.
Whether venturing off-road or wanting to add a touch of magic to your everyday driver, this watch is constructed in a way that it will suit many consumers and enthusiasts alike.
Although not on the level of Lajoux Perret in terms of movements found in many top Swiss luxury watch brands, you still can bag a Swiss made no date movement, 200 metres water resistance, box sapphire crystal and hand assembly in the UK. And that hidden Easter egg surprise revealing the five of diamonds symbol on the sapphire crystal.
Cracking idea? That’s for you to decide. So is it the ace in the timekeeping pack?
Probably their best iteration from the Seacrest collection to date, the contrast of black and orange, 316L stainless steel, enamel crown and vintage vibes emanating from that impressive bezel should set many up for any journey.
With of course, a Manley edge.
