GMT-Master 1675 - Source - Fifth Wrist
Take for example The Rolex Daytona. While it was originally rather unpopular due to it being a mechanical movement in a rising world of automatic watches, it eventually became a superstar. First released in 1963, this watch collection came into its own in 2016 wherein a Cerachrom bezel was released and brought with it a cult following. Furthermore, just one year later, an edition by Paul Newman sold for more than £14 million at auction. This is no small change matters!
How about the Rolex GMT Master II Ice? Crafted out of 18K white gold, the model also features 30 carats of brilliant cut diamonds. Released in 1972 and worn by The Godfather himself, this watch sold in 2019 for £974,580.
Even standard Rolex models see solid appreciation. You can buy the stunning Rolex veteran, The Rolex Submariner 124060 at retail for £7,700 and sell it on the secondary market for just under £10,000…a nearly 30% increase! You could invest in a little aviation history when you buy a Rolex GMT-Master II 126720 at retail for £9,450 and sell it on the secondary market for around £19,000 (at the time of writing). The age-old question though is does Rolex hold its value? Well, needless to say profit is abundant in horological spades as you will hardly lose money on this luxury watchmaker when you locate one in time for the Coronation of King Charles III.
Vacheron Constantin
Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is as major as the Coronation of King Charles III!
57260 - Source - Luxurious Magazine
Their motto of 'Faire mieux si possible, ce qui est toujours possible’, or ‘Do better if possible and that is always possible’ has remained true to this very day. This can be seen through this influential watchmaker creating numerous highly important innovations. Take for example the pantograph as far back as 1839 which essentially allowed the reproduction of complicated watch parts.
Is that not enough? Vacheron Constantin was also spearheaded in dealing with the royals too, such as their creation of the ‘La Farouk’ which was created for King Farouk of Egypt in 1935. From releasing the world's thinnest model movement in 1955 to their subsequent achievement of earning the “Diplôme Prestige de la France'', Vacheron Constantin has ended up as one of the top dogs of the horological world like King Charles III will soon be in the Royal Family!
Part of the infamous “holy trinity” watchmakers alongside Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, need we mention they created the world's most complicated model ever made a few times over? From King Farouk's model to the 57260, released for Vacheron Constantin’s 260th birthday, the latter watch took a stonking 8 years to craft, the model was so skilled boasting a mind boggling 57 complications that it was awarded the Grand Prix de L'Horlogerie prize in 2015.

Patek Philippe
Patek Philippe needs no introduction so don't be confused when folks start noticing it during the Coronation of King Charles III.
5035 - Source - Oracle Time
Patek Philippe are so revered and so successful that their patents have heavily influenced the world of watchmaking. This is despite only producing around 60,000 watches annually. Take for example the Gyromax balance which was created to increase the diameter of the balance and essentially make the moment of inertia bigger, all while there being less air resistance.
Subsequently, timekeeping is more precise and less likely to suddenly become inaccurate. And we don't want the Royal Air Force to be running late as they stream over Buckingham Palace for the Coronation of King Charles III. The watches themselves are just as groundbreaking. The calibre 89 pocketwatch is one such example, wherein it topped their own Graves Supercomplication as the most complicated model. Totalling 33 complications, it includes a moonphase indicator with creative ones like displaying of the date of Easter.
Patek Philippe never rest on their timekeeping laurels, from launching the first annual calendar model 5035 in 1996 to releasing the Oscillomax. This encapsulates both the Spiromax balance spring, Pulsomax escapement and GyromaxSi balance into one ensemble.

If you are looking to buy a Patek Philippe that will dazzle the crowd as much as the King Charles III crown, you are spoilt for choice! Princess Diana wore this watch too and instigated the ‘double wrist’ trend due to her also wearing another Patek Philippe gifted from King Charles III. More money than sense it seems!

In fact, Patek Philippe is very well known for releasing watches which yield phenomenal results. Featuring 20 complications and inscribed with ‘The Only One’ as it was made for the ‘Only Watch Charity Auction’, you can buy a Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime on the secondary market for around £25 million. Chance would be a fine thing if you saw one of these beauties at a street party.
How about The Patek Philippe 2499/100P? Audemars Piguet

Source – Hodinkee – Ref 26579CS.OO.1225CS.01
Top class materials and first rate accuracy when documenting the big day, time need not stand still on the Coronation of King Charles III. Every model is finished to the highest quality imaginable, blending both polished and satin finishes to give a beautiful sheen to the models. Their innovative use of materials is also extremely skillful.
Look towards the The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 26579CS.OO.1225CS.01 or forged carbon fibre in The Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team Chronograph, showing the unorthodox use of carbon fibre within their models. Furthermore, other watches like the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar use pink gold and the Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon use luxury materials such as titanium, showing the immense breadth and scope Audemars Piguet have when it comes to using different materials.
The Beast from Le Brassus makes 40,000 models a year which is peanuts in comparison to the 1 million watches Rolex manufactures every year. Audemars Piguet strives for greatness, detail and timekeeping in every model, even if that means leaving us drooling more than the prospect of a Bank Holiday on the occasion of the Coronation of King Charles III

Reverso - Source - Luxury London
Oozing elegance and sophistication, Prince Charles III has adorned a Jaeger Le-Coultre Reverso which has been crafted out of 18K yellow gold and is crafted atop a leather strap.
Their highly lauded Reverso collection stems all the way back to British soldiers wanting to be able to play polo while wearing their watches! The Reverso was revolutionary and promptly brought upon the entire idea of sports models, never mind the concept that models could actually rotate! The Reverso has seen many updates, particularly when looking at the Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2, a model crafted at a limited number of 75 pieces in platinum with a twin-axis tourbillon and cylindrical balance spring.
A balance spring small enough to fit in the Reverso was trailblazing on its own accord! Jaeger-LeCoultre though are watch patent machines! Having over 430 registered patents and 1,300 unique calibres, Jaeger-LeCoultre have paved the way for technological innovation. There’s a reason why their ebauche movement, the calibre 920 is the only calibre ever made which has been used by all “Holy Trinity members”, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet.

Panerai
Panerai are predominantly famed for one invention in particular…The Radiomir!
Luminor 6152/1 - Source - Ferno Time
In 1936, Panerai released a marine model for the Royal Italian Navy which utilised the watchmaker's luminous substance. It allowed the user to read the time while underwater and pretty much in any other precarious position. Consequently, Panerai started off working with Rolex in order to make a few timepieces. These watches became immensely popular and desired, resulting in models like the Panerai Luminor 6152/1, a highly desirable vintage timepiece created in 1955.
Panerai are also respected for their military history and bringing their military inspired timepieces to the horological table. Take for example the Panerai Luminor Marina which brought its large cushion shaped case and innovative locking crown. Worn by Jason Statham, Arnold Scharzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, Panerai just need King Charles III to finish off their celebrity clientele collection!
You may become so enamoured with Paneri that you may well join their ‘Paneristi’ fan club! Composed of blogs and online chats, Panerai has a cult following, similar to the soon to be celebratory crowds following the Coronation of King Charles III.
Most Valued Models
These military inspired timepieces are the most revered in Panerai’s portfolio. For example, the limited edition Panerai Luminor Marina ‘Left Hand’ variations were extremely popular and capped at 1000 pieces. Furthermore, the dial is inscribed with ‘Marina Militare’ as an ode to the Italian divers of WW2. Even more meritied than King Charles III’s own military career, this is a phenomenal piece to wear on the Mall during the Coronation of King Charles III!
Panerai Luminor Lab-ID Carbotech - Source - Timekeepers Club
Models such as the Luminor Marina Goldtech Sole Bleu utilise the finest materials such as gold. Now, Goldtech isn't just your standard gold either. In fact, Goldtech is also crafted using copper, giving the colour a redder hue to the dial, resulting in an extremely desirable colour, one that's reserved for Panerai watches only.
As distinctive as the new standard Coronation colours, The Panerai Lab-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech is an example of Panerai’s skill in crafting movements and fine calibres. This model utilises the calibre P.3001/C which has the capability of running for 50 years without the need for any servicing. Their clever use of carbon and tantalum-based ceramic ensures the movement is lubricated and wont stick, resulting in its excellent performance! Perhaps they can use the same movement for King Charles III’s reign?
If you want to really push the boat out, you could try and buy a Panerai Radiomir 47mm. Crafted as a special edition after Panerai joined the Richemont group, the model is powered by a vintage Rolex calibre which goes back to the 1940s. Capped at 60 pieces, the timepiece is crafted out of platinum and is extremely desirable among enthusiasts.
A. Lange & Söhne
- Lange & Söhne have created a few of their own innovations since their inception in 1845.
Zeitwerk Striking Time - Source - Watch Collecting
The German watchmaker invented the stable three quarter plate in 1864 to ensure the stability of the movement, not to mention introducing the Triple Split Chronograph. This watch became the world's first mechanical split seconds which allows multi hour comparative time measurements.
And they pull no punches when it comes to innovative design either. The Zeitwerk collection represented the first mechanical timepiece that displayed the time in a digital design with the time moving from left to right. Suffice it to say, the design was so innovative that it won the revered “Aiguille d’Or” at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Need we mention the incredible Lange 1 collection?
Utilising unique design features like an asymmetrical dial, none of the indicators experiences any overlap, allowing for a seamless viewing experience. The collection is so adored that it has won over 45 awards since 1995. In particular, the Zeitwerk jumping seconds brought together the incredible craftsmanship of jumping hour and minute numerals as well as a continual force escapement to provide the watch with consistent power regardless of if it's wound or not.
Like time, dear horophiles, success never stops!
Lange & Söhne have catered for the greats of the world, including Micheal Jordan, Ed Sheeran, Brad Pitt and controversial leaders, Bill Clinton and Vladamir Putin. They have also been on the wrists of other royal figures like Alexander II of Russia and Abdul Hamid II, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. They certainly have their fingers in royalty, perfect for the Coronation of King Charles III.

As we’ve seen, A. Lange & Söhne likes a solid timepiece filled with complications. When it was released, it instantly hit stardom and became the most complicated wristwatch in Germany. Priced at just over £2 million, the timepiece is capped at 6 pieces, boosting its rarity even further.
Of course, not everyone has £2 million to hand so it may be worth checking out other models like the Saxonia 219.032. IWC
IWC’s motto is ‘Probus Scafusia’ or to those who didn’t do Latin at school,‘Good, solid craftsmanship from Schaffhausen’.
IW3795-02 - Source - OceanicTime
IWC pride themselves on the construction of their models and as such, they have developed a unique material for some of their models. Crafted using the similar styles of PVD and DLC which is regularly used in the watchmaking industry, they have managed to create a soft rubber coating which is strong and still produces the same pitch black sheen as the other processes.
The Aquatimer models like the IW3795-02 and the IW3767-06 are prime examples of the models that use such an innovative technique. IWC also has their own eclectic history of innovation. They were the first Swiss brand to create a titanium wristwatch, a feat which has revolutionised the model industry as a whole. Titanium is extremely durable and lightweight, so by implementing it into their IWC Porsche Titan Chronograph 3700, they created the first ever titanium chronograph.

Mark XI - Source - Worn & Wound
The IWC Pilots model Mark XI was crafted as a matter of urgency by the Ministry of Defence in 1948 and would quickly become the ultimate aviation inspired model for pilots. Later, civilian watches would be produced, all of which related to the aviation of the 40s and would be the cornerstone of the popular Pilots collection. The Mark XI utilises the calibre 89 which has been said to be the most reliable manual wind time only movement ever made. Discontinued since the 1980s, collectors it’s time to keep your eyes open!
Some IWC collections like the Da Vinci and the Aquatimer are both highly innovative. The Da-Vinci offers accuracy for 500 years, a feat which is unheard of and the Aquatimer collection released the first watch which could reach an incredible 2000m of water resistance. Why not test your luck and try to get your hands on a IWC Siderale Scafusia?
Extremely complicated with both an astronomical display and a perpetual calendar, the watch is capable of showing a customised celestial chart. They have been reputed as saying they would be happy to sell 10 models a year, showing how complex the models are. Chopard
Tracing all the way back to 1860, Chopard is highly influential in the world of watch designs and would be a standout watchmaker to show off at the Coronation of King Charles III.
Floating Gems - Source - The Rake
In 1976, Chopard released the illustrious ‘Floating Gems’ watch named the Happy Diamonds. The main concept behind its design was for diamonds to ‘float’ between the sapphire crystal and the dials face. This innovative design resulted in a highly avant garde model and later a collection in 1993 which linked it with a stainless steel case.
Chopard also has their fingers in the racing world. Not only are they the official timekeeper of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, but they also have their own racing inspired watch, the Mille Miglia which tended to feature the standard chronograph associated with racing.
Easily deemed to be the masters of blending jewellery and watchmaking, Chopard has been courageous in blending steel and diamonds such as with the Happy Sport collection. Diamonds tend to be associated with precious metals but the general consensus is that steel and diamonds work just as well! Is that sufficient bling to bring to your Coronation of King Charles III street party?

Blancpain
While the name ‘Blancpain’ may conjure up images of the highly influential Fifty Fathoms collection or their iconic tool watch the Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet, they have a hell of a lot more to offer hungry horophiles looking for a watch suitable for the Coronation of King Charles III
Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel - Source - Escapement Magazine
As the world's oldest surviving watch watchmaker, Blancpain stems all the way back to 1735, a highly impressive feat considering they have not been short of any ideas! Take for example the launch of the ‘Ladybird’ watch in 1956 which immediately held the record of the smallest watch in the world. The movement was miniscule at 11.85mm in diameter yet still had the capability of lasting for 40 hours.
How about the Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel which became the first watch to feature a Chinese traditional calendar in 2012? Yes, Timelords. We are meaning zodiac signs and phases of the moon. Perfect for you astrology nerds or those looking to predict Harry’s watch choice at the Coronation of King Charles III.
Technically, Blancpain loves to push the boat out. Their 2013 Tourbillon Carrousel represented the pinnacle of technical innovation as the watch blended both the tourbillon and the carousel in order to counteract the effects of gravity on the balance wheel. While gravity and balance plates go together like oil and water, Blancpain’s innovation was highly effective.
