Franck Muller Crazy Hours Eau De Parfum Fragrance: Is This The Genuine Smell Of Success?
"Each fragrance like a Franck Muller watch tells a story from the best Italian citrus oils in the top note through to heart notes of hand-picked floral absolutes, exotic resins and precious woods,”
Beverley Bayne, Master Perfumer, Franck Muller
Haute Horologie and Haute Parfumerie combine to deliver a truly breathtaking experience from the house of Franck Muller. Look, Jaeger-LeCoultre may be the watchmaker’s watchmaker, but they have their own strapline…the Master of Complications.
Renowned for executing compelling timepieces from the vibrant Colour Dreams to formerly the most complicated watch on the planet, the $2.7 million Aeternitas Mega with 36 complications to its name, did you know they have a luxury perfume wing?
Now you do, thanks to Franck Muller Perfume. And as Boy George once said, “loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams…red, gold and green.” And we second that.
The perfect equilibrium of both high end markets, it is an explosion of craftsmanship and fragrance, resulting in a collection of six unisex scents, embodying the harmonious relationship between perfume and time.
Evoking cherished memories and delivering an abundance of waves of confidence to any wearer, isn’t it time we found out what precisely makes the Franck Muller Crazy Hours Eau de Parfum special? Watch out for our full blown review below. But first, a little background on this scintillating fragrance.
Something tells me there’s definitely an aroma of excitement and intrigue in the air…
Who Is Responsible For Creating Franck Muller Perfume?
The devil is most certainly in the details. And this is what you will find in all scents created by their Master Perfumers, inspired by their exceedingly great watches and intricate design.
Encapsulating unbridled creativity, boundless innovation and one of a kind scents, ready to lift any mood and worn for any special occasion, the fragrances are the brainchild of;
- Dominique Preyssas (Crazy Hours)
- Julie Pluchet (Colour Dreams, Aeternitas)
- Beverley Bayne (Double Mystery, Conquistador)
- Christian Provenzano (Crazy Hours 6)
Time Out With Stephen And Tabitha Gray - Franck Muller Perfume
Featuring more than a combined half century of experience in luxury perfume, father and daughter duo Stephen and Tabitha Grey are the main protagonists behind the brand’s Haute Parfumerie offerings.
Stephen Gray - A Bouquet Like No Other
“I found the Franck Muller brand and noticed it had no perfume which is very unusual for such a big brand…I was privileged to have worked with master watchmakers and I know many perfumers…so I introduced both masters to each other. Their industries are so different, except that perfume and watches are accessories and you can wear both on your wrist, close to the body.”
Stephen Gray, Managing Director of Franck Muller Perfume in conversation with Fragrantica,
Former CEO of luxury British perfume house Clive Christian, brimming with heritage and opulence, famous for their legendary crown residing on top of every bottle (the rights to which were initially granted by Queen Victoria in 1872), Stephen Gray truly is a King of his trade.
This debonair gent has been hard at it in the industry for more than 40 years, so knows a thing or two about scents. This is especially true as he has formerly worked in conjunction with other top UK fragrance brands such as Penhaligon’s. In addition to this, daughter Tabitha was making a name for herself at her role in the stable of Louis Vuitton.
Introduced in 2017, the new fragrance line was born with the know-how, expertise and first rate parfumerie excellence of both Stephen and Tabitha, transforming the Maison into more of a collaborative success than Audemars Piguet and Travis Scott.
Lowdown On The Franck Muller Crazy Hours Eau De Parfum
The moment you have been waiting for. Unlike Cher, we cannot turn back time!
Nevertheless, let’s get straight into the details of this wondrous fragrance. With a nod to how we look at and interpret horology, there is a lot to unwrap here. And that’s even before pulling off the sleek and majestic packaging! Once unveiled, stop for a minute to admire the sleek curves of the elegantly designed bottle which is beyond sublime.
Fit for any dressing table or sitting alongside your state of the collection, the bottle is something you want on display for all and sundry to admire. Seductive, sleek and with the most invigorating visual theatre, oh it’s a statement piece alright…but not as you know it.
Based on the instantly recognizable Cintrée Curvex case with its unique silhouette, the Franck Muller Crazy Hours Eau De Parfum utilises the finest raw materials from some of the creme de la creme in the perfume world. And boy oh boy, their scents stand out from the get go.
The epitome of premium fragrance, this might turn out to be the Rolls Royce of scents. Or perhaps the grail-like magnitude of combining perfume with watches. From boardroom to exclusive beach bar, this is perfumery at its finest, with the objective of evoking special moments…wherever the adventure takes you.
Now onto the fragrance itself.
Symbolised as “fresh citrus woody,” here is a summary of what to expect;
Top Notes:
Mandarin, bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, rosemary, basil, clary sage.
Heart:
Ozone, cardamom, pepper fusion, lavender, rose, Orris fusion, pink pepper, violet.
Base:
Patchouli, vetiver, amber, musk, vanilla
Dial I For Intensity
A contrasting and enigmatic bouquet, it wears well and subtly on both male or female with only a few spritzes required for an all encompassing scent. Like an aged Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, it’s understated yet crisp, going beautifully alongside any fine dress watch
Curvex CX Flash
Bold like the futuristic 2024 Curvex CX Flash with contemporary alloys, featuring yellow, red, orange and blue hour markers and enigmatic like the Giga Tourbillon, it’s woody…but not in the way you would imagine.
Then there’s the sleek contours and curved lines of the bottle that’s begging to be put on any high-end dressing table. It’s kinda like the Ursula Andress of perfumes if you catch our drift! And don’t forget the emblematic Franck Muller logo, taking pride of place on the centre of the fragrance top.
Oh yes, this really does have a horological licence to thrill.
Plus, the fragrance benefits from CPL Aromas' Aromafusion which ensures the scents are not replicated by any other brand. Consequently, the blend of ingredients in their perfumes are as unique as an H. Moser & Cie. X MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium.
That’s right…it’s that distinctive.

Everything You Need To Know About The Franck Muller Crazy Hours
Renowned globally for creating highly innovative and avant-garde timepieces. And the Crazy Hours collection is no different. Launched in 2003 when Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix was delighting children with 5 million copies sold overnight, horophiles were going downright crazy…for the Crazy Hours.
Reference 8880 CH COL DRM D
Yes, we love a Nautilus or a classic Cartier Santos-Dumont. Yet this visionary piece challenged traditional watchmaking norms and turned them on its head thanks to its unique and whimsical design. And the inspiration? It turns out it came to none other than Franck Muller, while sunning himself in Mauritius, creating a brand new ethos with its unconventional dial layout.
The man may be the so-called rebel of watchmakers, but he has without doubt a justifiable cause. His unwavering talent, starting off after four years at the Geneva School of Watchmaking, catapulted this particular novelty and his technical expertise to timekeeping stardom.
Design And Layout
Unlike standard watches where the hours are arranged sequentially around the dial, the Crazy Hours has the hours placed seemingly at random. Despite this unusual arrangement, it still functions normally.
The hour hand jumps to the correct numeral at each hour, while the minute hand moves in the traditional sweeping manner. Are you lost or require pointers on the dial configuration? Hang on a minute, take some time to debrief and we'll explain. As Run DMC proclaimed in the smash hit single “It’s Like That” from 1984…it goes a little something like this;
8880 CH with striking blue dial
Clockwise reading on the dial;
8
1
6
11
4
9
2
7
12
5
10
3
Unfortunately, these aren’t the winning Powerball numbers or part of a secret Da Vinci code to unlock a Rolex Daytona Rainbow 116595RBOW. Nor are they the secret combination numbers to one of Audemars Piguet exclusive houses. This is the formation you will discover on arguably the most talked about, mysterious watches ever produced.
Mechanism
This playful approach to telling time is made possible by a complex mechanical module developed by the Maison. In essence, the mechanism requires a sophisticated jumping hour module that is synchronised with a standard minute hand mechanism. This blend of creativity and technical expertise showcases their ingenuity and technical mastery.
Move over Zeitwerk, the jumping hour mechanism world ain’t big enough for the two of you.
Aesthetic Appeal
The Crazy Hours collection features a variety of designs, often characterised by vibrant colours and striking patterns that enhance its playful nature. The watch cases are typically crafted from high-quality materials such as gold, platinum, or stainless steel, while the dials may include intricate details like guilloché patterns (a la Rolex 1908 in that icy cool blue dial from Watches and Wonders 2024) or mother-of-pearl inlays.
Reception And Legacy
Upon its release, it received widespread acclaim for its originality and bold departure from traditional watch design, fast becoming a favourite among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its blend of artistry and engineering. The Crazy Hours has since become a hallmark of Franck Muller's brand, symbolising the tireless spirit of innovation and creativity.
Variations And Models
Over the years, the brand has introduced several variations of the Crazy Hours watch, incorporating different case shapes, sizes, and materials. Limited editions and special releases often feature unique design elements or complications, making each Crazy Hours watch a distinct piece of art, akin to Vacheron Constantin’s bespoke Les Cabinotiers range .
Crazy Hours 15 Year Anniversary Asia Exclusive Edition, produced across 40 different variations
In 2018, the brand unveiled a special 15th Anniversary Asia Exclusive in various metals such as stainless steel and rose gold with diamond variations (no lab-grown ones here!) for both models. This incorporated a stonking 40 different variations across three sizes, incorporating case diameters of 32.1mm, 36mm and 39.6mm.
And in 2023, they went on to mark three decades of the legendary Crazy Hours complication with colour dreams numbers, housed inside the instantly recognisable Cintrée Curvex™ case. Complete with their iconic silhouette, as Nicholas Rudaz, CEO of Franck Muller told me in an exclusive interview at WPPH 2024, it is all about “sharing the emotion of the watch”
Now, Jamiroquai once sang about “Virtual Insanity”.
Be it timekeeping madness, dial lawlessness or a master stroke, the Franck Muller Crazy Hours is a testament to the brand's philosophy of pushing the boundaries of traditional watchmaking, then reinventing them. It is unimaginable fun on the wrist that no one has seemed to recreate…until Richard Mille stepped up to the plate in 1999.
Creating more of a sensation than one of Andrew Tate’s latest posts, its unconventional approach to displaying time, coupled with exquisite craftsmanship and design, makes it a remarkable piece in the ever changing world of Haute Horlogerie.
Whether viewed as a technical marvel, a work of art, or a rule breaking timepiece, it continues to captivate and inspire avid horophiles around the globe.
Crazy Hours Collabs
Nothing it seems is impossible in Frank Muller’s universe. Just take a look at their awe-inspiring Watchland Estate in Genthod, Geneva, which we had the pleasure of being invited to with a grandiose factory tour.
The Watchland Estate, Genthod where dreams are made. Source: Chrono Hunter
Established in 1983, with Mont Blanc in the not too far distance, it prides itself on 100% vertical integration especially with its dials and cases. Taking in several Japanese influenced mansions Grand Seiko would be proud of, constructed in 1905, it’s a sight to behold. From the CNC machines to the meticulous attention to detail that goes into every piece, no horological stone is left unturned.
But time does not stop for no man (or woman), in particular for the collaborations Franck Muller has undertaken with a few familiar faces. Take for example Snoopy, of said Speedmaster fame, the officially registered NASA mascot when Buzz Aldrin blasted into space in 1969.
In fact, Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary Speedmasters (310.32.42.50.02.001) remain some of the best Omega watches to buy to this day.

But what has this got to do with Franck Muller I hear you ask? Hang on a tick and we’ll explain. It’s down to none other than the King of collabs George Bamford, who I had the pleasure of grabbing for an exclusive interview here.
How Much Is That Doggy In The Window
Introduced in November 2023, the Crazy Hours Artic Snoopy will no doubt give you the chills…in a good way we hasten to add. This comes off the back of the stainless steel, black dial Franck Muller X BWD Crazy Hours Snoopy Limited Edition from 2021.
Paw Patrol - Crazy Hours X BWD Arctic Snoopy Limited Edition
This exclusive run of 45 pieces in conjunction with Bamford Watch Department, displaying Charles Schulz’s lovable pooch on the dial, represents the full declaration of timekeeping love. The numbers on the face are as follows from the 12 o’clock position clockwise;
- 2
- 7
- 5
- 10
- 3
- 8
- 1
- 6
- 11
- 4
- 9
Bamford’s fondness for the cheeky beagle is as outrageous as Liberace’s wardrobe and as maverick as LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise in the 1986 smash hit movie, Top Gun. And it works more as a treat than what you might receive on Halloween.
But it’s not Woodstock who takes front and centre, rather his compadre Snoopy whereby the arms act as hour and minute hands. Although his avian friend sits proudly on the 3 and 4 numerals, located at 5 and 10 o’clock on this particular timepiece.
At a slim 36mm on the wrist, the titanium number boasts featherweight properties due to the material incorporated into it. There is also a two-component baked enamel and white dial housed within the iconic Cintrée Curvex case.
This is given a generous dose of Super Luminova for excellent visibility in the darkest of conditions, Meanwhile, a similarly coloured strap is hand-sewn and finished with a titanium buckle.
The piece de resistance comes by way of the presentation box that is in the form of Snoopy’s kennel. This is an outlandish showcase, displayed in white with black bricks that matches the look and feel of the end product.
But wait, there’s more.
Crazy In Love
No, we’re not talking 30+ Grammy award winner Beyoncé, but more about the Vanguard Crazy Hours Hom Nguyen.
Vanguard Crazy Hours Hom Nguyen (V 41 CH HN LTD BC)
Another impressive partnership that puts Gilbert and Sullivan to shame, this marked two decades of the infamous piece. In 2023, the Maison teamed up not once but twice with the world renowned Franco-Vietnamese artist, conjuring up another special limited edition.
A self taught creator, Nguyen’s South East Asian influences and French background ensures his universal oeuvres centre around human destiny and the yin and yang between emotions such as joy and sorrow. But there’s not much to cry about here.
Encompassing human values with sentiments of respect and communion thrown in, it led Nguyen to receive the honour of Chevalier de l’ordre national du Mérite in 2022. His painting style is second to none with a similarly wild, unruly mood to portray wondrous patterns seen across the concrete numbered symbols.
Unlike the TAG Heuer Carrera Date, this is far from a simple three handed model. Evoking rebellious graffiti style lines, it is an embodiment to his craft, carried out by their exceedingly great watchmaking prowess which resonates with this particular collection
Home to the MVD FM 2800 bidirectional automatic winding movement, it has a 42 power reserve across five different variations and precious metals like titanium alloy, 18k rose gold and stainless steel. Available in 41mm, 43mm and 45mm case diameters, they only have 50 to 100 watches subject to the manufacturing process, with white, black and coloured hour markers.
And while there’s nothing subtle about the look of the Crazy Hours, for its fans, isn’t that exactly the point? This may very well be the Evil Kneivel of watches, but as they say in Latin…
Audere est facere (To Dare Is To Do)
What’s Our View?
Many brands go on about pushing the boundaries and breaking down horological barriers. But, like Chrono Hunter, this brand is a revolutionary, a visionary…way, way before its time. And this resonates perfectly with the Franck Muller line of perfumes.
Now, a great man once said (It was Franck Muller actually) that “‘time is what one assigns to it”. And nothing could be further from the truth. With citrus undertones and a woody overcurrent, it contrasts nicely against the backdrop of florals, spices and earthy, warm notes which will be the catalyst for many memories.
Conclusion
Trust us when we say it’s not a case of “smell you later.’ As legendary drummer and Genesis front man Phil Collins declared in 1981, can you feel it coming in the air tonight?
This is a remarkable tribute to two of the best luxury accessories joining forces, producing a striking fragrance that will surely stand the test of time. A symbiotic relationship between master perfumers and one of the top Swiss watch brands that genuinely stand out from the timekeeping crowd.
Remember, they were doing incredibly complicated watches some thirty years ago when Muller met enthusiast and casemaker Vartan Sirmakes in 1991.
Defying the theory of time as we know it, the brand is responsible for many “World Premieres” as they call it, rivalling anything seen at the Emmys or Golden Globes. And the chaotic Crazy Hours nonuniformity is just one of them.
Yes, the tonneau case shape was invented long before Richard Mille made it a thing before being flexed on the wrists of many high-profile clientele including Pharrell Williams.
Besides this, its inherent legacy is there for everyone to see. Complications like the world’s first tri-axial tourbillon from 2004, and the largest tourbillon incorporated into the face of a timepiece (Giga Tourbillon) in 2011 with a 20mm case diameter, signifies why they deserve their place among the pantheon of luxury watchmakers.
But as far as fragrances are concerned, the citrus, woody infused Franck Muller Crazy Hours Eau De Parfum resonates with what the brand represents and its incredibly strong aesthetics. Any enthusiast or horophile worth their salt knows that not only vintage cars, but whisky, perfume and watches go hand in hand.
If you are looking to pair this particular scent with a sophisticated wrist worthy companion, we know the perfect platform to tickle your senses where you can buy and sell with absolute confidence, security and with authenticity guaranteed…
It’s time to pick up the scent and follow your nose…
